In the short series of Marvel Zombies Return, Spider-Man Reveals His Zombie Face to Kitty Pryde.
After spending 4 years hidden underground, determined to discover a cure for the zombie virus, Spiderman rescues Kitty Pryde from the clutches of Wolverine. He informs her that he is close to completing a cure but it requires a blood sample from her Earth’s Wolverine to finalize it.
Kitty stumbles upon a closet in Spider-Man’s lab filled with mutilated bodies. Peter revealing his zombie face explains that he too is a zombie but he sustains himself by only consuming zombie Wolverine’s victims. They track down the Wolverine of her dimension, who is seen battling and ultimately defeats his zombified counterpart. They obtain the blood sample and Peter swings off to craft the cure, only to discover that Wolverine was infected during the fight.
Spider-Man forms an alliance with a zombified Hulk and informs Hulk that the only path to ending the chaos is for all of them to die. A now fully infected Wolverine joins forces with Spidey, Hulk, and Iron Man, forming the new Avengers. They engage in a fierce battle against the zombie horde. Spider-Man unveils his secret weapon, Sandman in a jar, whose body is infused with Tony Stark’s necrotic tissue-destroying nanites. Sandman floods the arena with his body, annihilating all the zombies present, including the zombified Peter. With his last breath, Spider-Man expresses gratitude to Flint for avenging the murders of Aunt May & Mary Jane.
