St. Louis IX – Living Divine Mercy (EWTN) Ep. 258 w/ Fr. Chris Alar

Many Saints are known for a single attribute, such as holiness, wisdom, or courage. Then there are other Saints with an embarrassment of riches, famous for a number of holy achievements, like loving father, benevolent king, a just lawgiver, brave crusader, friend of the poor, dispenser of mercy, and defender of the faith. That was St. Louis IX (1214-1270), the only French king to be declared a Saint (feast day: August 25). Father Chris Alar, MIC, tells the story of his favorite Saint. Then join Fr. Mark Baron, MIC, in conversation with Matthew Mark McWhorter, a former corporate attorney and atheist who put the Bible “on trial″ — a search for the truth that led him to the Catholic faith.

Watch Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, and the Marian Fathers and Brothers from the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy on our weekly show, “Living Divine Mercy,” airing on EWTN every Thursday at 10 pm ET, with an encore presentation on Mondays at 9:00 am ET. Through teaching segments, Bible and St. Faustina Diary excerpts, as well as real-life examples of people who are living Divine Mercy in their lives, you will learn why Jesus said Divine Mercy is mankind’s last hope of salvation! Ep. 258: St. Louis IX

  1. Thank you Fr Chris and ti the EWTN team for this wonderful episode. What an amazing story of the big and white cross which touch many people lives passing through the Interstate. And to Fr. Bill in teaching and forming Vietnamese men for the priesthood.

  2. A wonderful Saint. From a book on French history which, alas, was lost in a cross-country move; a line from a poem written in eulogy to that beloved king: “To whom may the poor cry now in their woe, since the good king is gone who loved them so.” Wish I could provide the full reference, but truly Louis IX was a true saint and mich loved by his people. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  5. Beautiful presentation of St. Louis IX. As I see you presenting your favorite Saints Father Chris, one can see how much they have influenced your priesthood. Just as St. Louis was kind and compassionate and self giving those are so many of your wonderful qualities, that have so influenced my personal faith journey. Father David, please know that you are in my prayers. I love all of the innovations you have already brought to the National Shrine. I see the changes just after my last visit in April. Please know you are in my prayers and I just appreciate the way you put yourself right out there humbly recognizing your strengths. You are doing a great job and I see the fruits of your work already just on my recent visit during this past week.
