The Frustrating Reality of USB-C (and why it never works) | Simple but Surprising

⚡️Tired of playing USB-C cable roulette? You’re not crazy, USB-C is NOT a promise. It’s just the shape.

In this video, you’ll finally understand why two cables that look identical can behave like totally different products: one charges fast, one barely charges, one copies files at “carrier pigeon” speed, and one can run a monitor like it’s nothing. The secret is what’s wired inside, data “lanes,” USB versions (2.0 vs USB4), and Power Delivery (PD) rules that make your charger and device negotiate before sending real power.

You’ll also learn the sneaky reason some cheap gadgets won’t charge at all with USB-C to USB-C (yep… missing a tiny resistor), why better laptop cables need an e-marker chip, and the one simple shopping rule that gets you the closest thing to a “one cable that does everything.” 🔥

✅ If you want fewer dead devices, faster transfers, and zero “why won’t my monitor turn on?” moments… this is the guide.

  1. I've worked with cables and plugs for decades. There are some standard rules. Chose cables as short and thick as possible, and never pull the cables, only the plugs. Carefully

  2. Usb c cables are so old and antiquated and serve no purpose to the user other than charging.
Minelab use a magnetic type. 100% waterproof on their metal detectors.
GME use a similar charging system. Both very reliable.

Time to ditch this usb shit

  3. USB used to be a standaard, but manufacturers started to make their own and that casussen endless problems. A standaard means that a fitting plug and socket of the same kind should simply work when it fits. If the manufacturer wants another functionality, he should fire his own new standard and not pollute an existing one.
It ended up in this frustrating situation, you really need to know what the function is of the stuff you want to connect. When it fits it does not simply work anymore. Crazy development but that’s nowadays engineering….🤷🏼‍♂️

  4. also stay with the standard feet and inches instead of meters and millimeters I mean stay with one and quit swapping the measurements. It’s just totally confusing. My brain don’t swap that well but it’s still very confusing because this cable has 240 W but it still is slow when you’re in a vehicle but it’s fast when you use the charging block. It’s just very very confusing all of it. we need a way to tell whether or not it’s a charging or a data cable, Simple and to the point.

  5. First of all its not the consumers fault. Tech and tech wires are made cryptic on purpose. Here is a simple solution when its not obvious.
    Check the cable thickness
    * Thin cables = charging only…or slower data.
    * Thicker cables = Usually contain more wires for faster data and higher charging power. That is this video in a "nutshell".

  6. What kind of mentally challenged, deranged, and demeaning content creator thought this would be an interesting or informative video. This is common sense unless you were born in 1950 and just now purchasing your first phone or computer. What a waste. I stopped about 30 seconds into the video, gave it a thumbs down, and a "Don't recommend channel" so I am never exposed to something so ridiculous ever again.

  7. I found this video just by chance showing up on my feeds ,strangely as while I was actually troubleshooting my android phone that so happened to suddenly shut down today and I could not get it to completely power up !!
placing myself Into a state total frustration while as I kept trying to mess with the power button not having the slightest clue what the hell I was actually doing nevermind nor as to whatever I was to expect from going through so many cables while simply guessing my way around it but simply left in high hopes that one might carry a magical answer and surprisingly solve the problem however Ièm still in the same position as by which I started out with and this video never helped but to make it altogether that much more so confusing !! I give up !!!!!!!!!

  8. I use differenr colors nail polish and code some of mine so I can tell which side is up for my laptop. I put dots on only the top side.

But the industry should have coded them from day one. We've been using csbles over 100 years. Any old central office telephone guy would know this. Too bad the Bill Gates digital nerd types didn't know this.

  9. Being a complex connector, with lot of pins(not all being required all the time), manufacturers of cables and devices have the possibility to connect to them in any way that cross their minds. That's the reason for the problems.

  10. OK, I get the variations but what I do not like is the companies that sell them do not spell out what number they are 1 to 4. It should be clearly stated so we know what to buy depending on what's its being used for.

I just looked at some of mime and nowhere does it indicate any number so how on earth can we tell the difference. It does feel like one big scam by these producers. You think you have a dud cable so you buy another!

  11. My wierdest cable was the one that l got with my Olympus camera. When 'temporarily' mislaid, l found that l could not use any other cable to transfer photos from the camera because the port is unique. Fortunately, l was able to find one on Amazon.

  12. When the talk is about USB-C and apple devices, i just consider it an Apple problem 🤷🏾‍♂️ I purchased a set of 240W USB-C cables. I know it's for data transfer and power. If I needed one also for display, then ill get that one. Make sure it's the version with display. These cables charge all my devices and laptop, even with data transfer when needed. Oh yeah, I use a 100W brick with 2x USB-C, and 1x USB 3.1 ports. Thanks for showing people to look for the details, don't just look and buy blindly. And this video is correct. I have a Ugreen 1 meter long USB-C cable with 80Gbps speed, with 240W. I couldn't find a longer cable. My 2 Meter long cables with 240W is strictly for power.

  13. If you Ns wanted it pronounced temmu, you should have spelled it that way. The dirty Cs didn't start using English letters suddenly. Vowel consonant vowel makes the first vowel long. It's tee-moo. There is no other way it can be pronounced.

  14. I scrap cables for copper . I also classify and warehouse cables in totes . I just bought a truck with the money . Getting the copper out is another matter . I retired from Surveying 3 years ago . It was difficult to explain my effort . 50 years mapping and staking landfills , junkyards and scrapyards allowed me to observe the different methods. Landfills have a vinyl liner that holds everything and it is water and air tight to a certain pressure. I have recently scrapped tons of cables and cords. There will be a chance to get rid of copper cables entirely . The price of copper is on it's way to double what it was 3:years ago due to AI and data management . It will drop again . But it will boom for at least a year.

  15. It's ironic USB stands for Universal Serial Bus and yet it is the LEAST universal cable I know of. They've had to kill entire lines of electronics because of the pressure to conform to USB.

And there's definitely still other cables you will need like HDMI (micro HDMI, mini HDMI), Ethernet, 3.5mm headphone jack and obviously a 3-prong AC power cord. But USB is a beast all of its own:

USB-A, USB-B, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB-C, mini USB, and micro USB, to name a few. I'm sure they are making newer, faster, more reliable, more powerful versions, every day.

    Universal. 🤣
