The Three Stigmata of Philip K. Dick

The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch is a particularly bizarre tale from that most imaginative of writers, Philip K. Dick. This month on Film, Literature and the New World Order, James discusses this groundbreaking work with Tim Lacy of ReportageBook.com. So, what do the exploits of Leo Bolero and Barney Mayerson have to do with anamnesis, the Platonic forms and Valentinian gnosis? Find out in this fascinating conversation!

  1. PKD's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep becomes more relevant as the days go on. Also something I found interesting was Blake Lemoine becoming a Christian Mystic (The guy who was speaking about the sentience of Lamda.) A lot of that story and his story reminds me of that story. He really gave us a great framework for the strange world we're all witnessing.

  2. Ejem……

Amor, salud, fuerza y libertad !!!!

  3. Thanks for the ample time to read James but honestly it felt like the elevator music drug on and on for hours after I wrapped it up. Maybe a little less pause time on the next book club meeting? 🧐

  4. I listened to this podcast today because I had to finish the book first.
I wanted to add that because the characters mention "peyote" somewhere along the book, it reminded me of "Doors of Perception" from Aldous Huxley where he writes about the effects of this drug that is kind of LSD.

  5. High, Lizzy from the Netherlands here 👋🏻 i’ll be back in a couple of days i guess. I’ve ordered the book, i do love the paper on my fingers, and i love the books of Philip K. Dick, havent read this one yet, looking forward to it! Thanks for the suggestion.Keep up the good work🍀

  6. “Nothing written for pay is worth printing. Only what has been written against the market.” Ezra Pound.
I defend a free market but I can agree with this, if you don’t bleed to create it, I don’t want to know it. Meaning whether there is a great enough market for what I say, there’s great value to be had. The passionate writer willing to risk all to say what needs to be said. Of course, we dont live in free but a force market, a market funded by force & not free choice.

YouTube demonetized 1st Amm Auditing. Basically, the govt is eating our lunch free all the time. We need to make them pay for that.
YouTube or DARPA-Tube rather, has been created, funded, favored, controlled by our govt whether we liked it or not ie we have claim to it & Americans claim is individual rights per founding philosophy whether they like it or not.

Besides, our govt isn’t allowed to infringe individual rights anywhere, not in America, nor online, or even overseas but of course they do. In short, advocate we demand our claim by force as it’s gone way beyond asking nicely.

    Virtue is defending liberty
It would be messy & create problems to hold people accountable for their vote and it would be messy to start coming down on these govt-made billionaires, confiscating what they should have never been given to begin with, & that’s the point. As of now our freedom, well being, & prosperity is taken w/ impunity because it’s too messy to do something about.

People need to know there’s a line, they need to know voting for someone who just forced a medical experiment on your best friend & now he’s dying of cancer is bad & voting for them again, is unforgivable. Trump went on to commit the Palestinian genocide.

You just don’t get to take everything w/ impunity. Mistakes are made but that doesn’t excuse everything
They say ignorance of the law is no excuse but law derives from reason which derives from justice or Just (jus, in Greek)
    ‘Ignorantia Jus, Non Excusat’
Ignorance of what’s just is no excuse!

II I had everyone voting to come kill you, are you going to run, wait til the army is at your door, or are you going to start telling people about the guilt I & my movement have earned ourselves?

  7. Without reading the book I really enjoyed the podcast while driving….. The fundamental meaning to everything was encroached and the themes (insights) the author had for the future sounded freakily accurate… Could you say the author was almost a human version of Ai, playing the averages of all outcomes while staying within a set boundary of the imaginative storyline to near perfection. What is quality? Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance also embracing the Ubuntu topics.

  8. The novel as conceit – is something I consider as the projection of a 'grand concept'.
The Casting Out of a Mind can never BE the Mind – but nor can it truly leave the Mind of its conception.
That story must be framed in a body.
The stories within the story all share the same framework.
A conceptual mechanism 'given life', generates an artificial vision, arm and teeth – as through a lens darkly does a fragmented mind perceive a fragmented world as the drive to put Humpty together again.
I don't enjoy the style of the book. All the characters are the same – regardless the roles they are assigned. But then that is part of its message.
I didn't enjoy Tim's rambling which felt too much his own excitement and less the focus on the book, its themes and relevance or perspective. Though I got the signal despite the noise.
The Book exemplifies Sci-fi as a vehicle to explore and communicate ideas in a 'popular format' of storytelling given scope beyond the limits of our 'minned' experience of physical existence. Though Imagination didn't wait on technological recontextualisation – the new terrain does generate new variants of expression.
But the underlying archetypal patterns of the narrative or mythically framed 'self' underlie all stories – whatever the psy-cultural function of their origin.
Palmer Eldritch is generated for the experience of fantasy or hallucination made real in the mind by the fear of what we might call death or non existence.
He does 'know' this and it drives, shapes and forms the development of his thought and behaviour.
Covid Op shows many that an unreality can be given belief and vested identity by defences or countermeasures that persist the narrative threat as the 'solution'.
This doesn't make a virus exist, but is does enable the believers to act out upon themselves and each other what is then flagged to the virus or the counter virus – on any level of the conceit.

"The Show Must Go On! " has deeper meanings within the split mind of the human social masking order.
If the Christ is recognised as the free yielding up of 'self specialness' to a Universal Will' or Father. Then Antichrist is the expression of opposing or blocking the Christ by masking in the form of virtue as a basis for imposing and enforcing sacrifice of the Will to a lie and the father of it.

In A Course in Miracles the 'specialness' is framed by attack, guilt and masking dissociation. The projection of special hate Other's even as it generates a 'self' that has got rid of hated conflict or at least masked and distanced under Notional Security protocols. Special love is formed within the hate as a masking agreement or contractual alignment of terms and conditions of shifting alliances relative to shared 'hate targets. Love in truth is not special, and so it is not in or even conceivable to the mind of the world made out of terror, masked and distanced.
Excepting this: that you release the purpose that 'made it so' to receive and give true blessing – which cannot be manufactured.

PKD acknowledges the 'Space between' as the Source and Nature of Intelligence – yet his diction is in no sense poetic, and reading between the lines is no sense of communion. The 'ideas' are fleshed out to story a joylessness framed in intellectual conceits.

A Course in Miracles offers the recognition of the Holy Spirit within the moment or situation at hand, as the recognition of a transcendent grounded support and direction. A true discernment within being – not a judgement of a mind that runs a head, to get left behind.

"You have made the mistake of looking for the Holy Spirit in YOURSELVES…. By adopting the ego’s viewpoint, you undertook an ego-alien journey WITH THE EGO AS GUIDE. This was BOUND to produce fear". ACIM

Now you might say – "dont let truth get in the way of a good story" – or by persisting in story ensure that "The Show Must Go On!"
But you CAN notice this, for only by giving a blind eye can you not know what you do – and thus assign your 'fruits' to the hand, mouth or vision of an Other, as an alien will.
Why did Jesus warn against resisting evil?
Because it is a derivative of false thinking.
By bringing our experience – as it is – to the revealing of truth, we release the temptation to make truth in our own image.

  9. I have waited for James to touch on the subject of Gnosticism for some years, because it is quite literally Anarchism elevated to the spiritual dimension of the human experience. I hope there are more episodes on this matter in the future, and if anyone could point me to any episodes in the past I may have missed, please let me know.
    Anarchy = No Archons.
