  1. I suspect the only job more terrifying was the Japanese kaiten , human-containing kamikaze piloted torpedo… Reading about the B-17 ball turret gives me chills. Thank you heroes who fought for our freedom, let's hope we can keep it, 80 years later.

  2. Ultimate fear machine. Claustraphobic, fear of heights, fear of flying, freezing temperatures, low oxygen, getting shot at, explosions all around. Manmade horrors

  4. My pappy was a ball turret gunner 50 successful missions and he said he made a promise with the lord if you see me through I will never fly again and he didn’t we always drove places even well into the 90s

  5. I'm no p*ssy, but I'd never climb into 1 of them even if I could fit. Anyone who was brave enough to hop in there & not think twice is a real hero in my book.

  6. Do your history bud😅😮😅 …..wtf….ur going off of ur own head???? No ur wrong research before u post maybe???? The sperry ball turret was safe cozy comfortable and cutting edge. Read bomber interviews next time😂😂😂

  7. He missed a trick at the end there. The job of a ball turret gunner required balls.

Oh and hey there was a safety strap at least so if the turret was shot away and you were somehow not killed you’d be strapped to the bottom of the aircraft until someone pulled you in…hopefully.

  8. My great grandpa was a ball turret gunner in WW2. He told me about it a few times, said he had a parachute but it was up in the plane not on him anywhere and nothing under his a$$ but glass and some metal strapping. He took pictures from up in the air and damn that really put it into perspective.

  9. they should have made them out of rubber: if the plane went down, it could be disconnected and, after it landed on Germany, it could bounce around – hopefully, back to the UK or CH.
