Devotion to Black was strong because of pack rat, but legendary cause of Gary. If only devotion to blue wasn't better.

Grasp of Fate deserves honourable mention here. Rhystic Study is still a nuisance even in 1v1.
Rystic study should have been banned before jeweled lotus
There is also rune tail, kitsune ascendant. After 30 life it prevents all damage that would he dealt to your creaures and never unflips.

if you ban rhystic study, you might as well ban EVERY stax in the game… just pay the one as tho you couldnt play it if there was a stax card.
That Rhystic one always makes me sigh. I had like, six copies of the card back when I was playing in highschool, and indeed thought it was a complete waste of a card in a deck.
Then dropped out, and sold all my cards, and then 20 years later got back into the game when Forgotten Realms released.
How I wish I still had my old bulk of MTG, but also all my old DBZ card game collection by Score. I had the ultra rare Vegito lvl2 character card, and thst thing was worth over $1,000 the last time I looked at it a year ago 😅
Let's be real, Rystic Study has ALWAYS been a good card.
Gary is a joke right? Commander was popular when it was released.
Proxied over so many rhystic studies with sharpie. Loads in the commons bin for 10p at the LGS.
Divinity of Pride is also a card that benefits from Commander's higher life total.
5 W/B mana, 4/4 Flying Lifelink
When your Life is 25 or more, this creature gets +4/+4.
An 8/8 flying life stealer for 5 mana is pretty good.
