They Cut Down My Trees for Their View—So I Blinded Their Cameras Overnight

They chainsawed her late husband’s cedars for a better view, then raised a glass to her from the hill.

Joan Hartley, a 64-year-old widow, comes home from her Tuesday shift at the county office to find fourteen cedars her husband Frank planted forty-one years ago cut in half. Only the ones blocking the view from the glass houses of Larkspur Ridge. Up on his deck, Russell Thorne, the man who runs the homeowners’ board, toasts her while his guests laugh.

Her own security camera caught a white truck at 10:07. Two men, forty minutes, no knock. The HOA’s answer is a $1,200 check “for the trimming,” with “full and final settlement” printed on the back. Then her neighbor Gus spots three cameras on poles at the bottom of the hill. They aren’t pointed at the path. One is aimed straight at her bedroom window, and it has been there for a year. But Joan spent thirty years recording deeds, and she knows exactly where her property line is.

👉 Watch till the end — the $1,200 check she never cashed comes back to the table in a way nobody on the Ridge saw coming.

  1. HOAs should be illegal. The only thing they do is rob the people. Charge you fees and do nothing for the money except harass the people. Does Mousalini, Gorbachev, Castro ever come to mind when you see how they try to dictate how you live

  3. Sorry but I think anyone who plants trees which will grow to block out their neighbour's view is totally selfish. Those were farm shelter trees not residential, neighbour friendly ones.

  4. Joan's actions weren't calculated vengeance. She reminded them the trees which her husband planted was on her property. And would need her approval to remove them. Americans all over this nation r being treated like 2nd. Class citizens with no rights. Bravo Joan

  5. I personally don't like the mentality with everyone saying " just sue them" American wasn't built on lawyers and suing to protect what you own. That entire neighborhood would have been ashes, we have accepted rich people thinking they can control other people's lives with their money , sometimes things have to be reset.

  6. Sue them for the price of replanting the Mature trees that they destroyed. And also the money that they got for the wood that they took from the trees that they destroyed make sure they pay dearly public humiliation isn’t off the table and neither is jail time. make them suffer. and destroyed the company that cut the trees down without your permission while you’re at it.

  7. This happened to me and the deputy told me that they don't prosecute for destruction of personal or private property and allowed the perpetrator to do more damage by cutting my fence cutting my support post and then stalking me shooting at me he even told me my land was his and if I mowed it he would kill me..so since I had it surveyed and filed in the county I mowed it anyway..
Our corrupt sheriff dept refused to help in any way only talked to him and took his side…
    I don't trust the sheriff dept anymore….
There is no equal justice or equal protection in Texas….
