Last year, we set out to take a busted old Porsche 944 and drop a Honda K24 motor in it. K-series swaps are growing in popularity, but adapting one to a RWD chassis like the 944 is… hard, to say the least. It would normally require a lot of custom fabrication, but we found a mysterious seller online offering a kit that he claimed would make it a breeze.
Aaaaand it wasn’t. Especially because we started the project in the middle of winter in an icy parking lot. The engine dropped in ok, but getting it hooked up to the 944’s stock transaxle was a nightmare. So, like many projects, it sat for months while we regrouped. Some of you noticed.
But with a little help from some friends, we figured it out. Now it’s running, driving, breaking brains all over the tri-state region… and a dyno test showed the K24 motor putting out almost 300 horsepower, double the 944’s original engine. And it sounds amazing.
In today’s finale, Tom walks through exactly what went wrong, how we got it back on the road, and what we learned attempting the impossible. The car isn’t done by any means—but it’s ready for the next chapter.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should… turns out you don't even 'can'…
OH MY GODDDDD I THOUGHT THE VIDEO SERIES DIED. I HAVE BEEN WAITING
That's a lot of steps to be making the same power as a tuned 944 turbo, and it would cost about the same too.
I used to work with a guy who swapped an Audi 1.8t into a 944: https://youtube.com/@halfagarage
Who said it wasn’t possible?
remember when The Drive didn't suck? those were good times.
Wow🫨🍀
Just call it K44, easy name.
"Is that a V8?" Lmaooo
My first thought when I see builds like this is… "I never want to do anything like this".
Too much headache.
🔥🔥🔥
This is probably the most real DIY car build on YT; I'd wager 80% of builds of this magnitude end up going this way and ending up at a shop.
Idk why someone would say a turbo k swap is impossible, the car platform already had a turbo 4 model in its lineup and I know people who have fit a 6.0 LS in there
its about fucking time! woooooo been waiting and checking the channel for so long thinking i missed it!
Just found this series always wanted to make a 944 drift car. Had a Honda element with the K 24. It was actually awesome.
I’ve been waiting years for this!!😂😂😂 congrats bro!!👏🏾👏🏾
Shit…I thought this was dead😂😂😂
Lemons racing here we come!
Is that exhaust on the dyno or are those rear tires rubbing something fierce?
I just got my foxbody running and driving after 18 months – it's a great feeling!
How is this guy related to Drive?
Titanic meme “ it's been 944 years “
This has been a fantastic advisory series. Basically dont do anything this guy did unless you wanna melt pistons and start fires.
The japanase middle class dad larp
Ay good work brother!
But let me dad you real quick: you got a fire extinguisher in that thing right? Only saying this to be sensible, not a knock on you or your hard work
you got a yt channel?
That body style is sweet❤
is that a v8? remind me of some of my friends that im trying to force into cars, so wholesome.
labor, rebuilding and replacement parts, dynoing and towing it around sounds like more cost than the car and k24 was
don’t think it needs a full build, it could be pretty fun and chill and sporty without crazy power or noise or aero and all that. i also wouldn’t strip the interior to be all racecar (no shade but it kinda already is lol), not everything needs that so it ain’t necessary. the wheels flares and fender mirrors make it pretty cool as a japanese porsche
Lo que va a quedar ese porsche de @martin gallegooo, dioss
Big oof, glad it got fixed. Body kit next? Lol
Finally!!!
Longest span between videos in a series, ever. 🏆
bring it to 944 fest
This is now just a proper start, car builds are never done 😅😅
A project is never done 😂
FINALLY!!!! 😅😅
You are right about one thing. You clearly have no idea what you're doing.
Knew it since March of this year ha ha.
