Most walls end with baseboard. This one doesn’t.
…
Instead, we used @trimtex architectural Z-beads to create a recessed drywall detail that makes the floor look like it slides underneath the wall. Clean, modern… and apparently very controversial.
…
From cutting back drywall and pre-building corners to mudding, sanding, and finishing around a trimless pocket door, here’s exactly how we pulled it off.
…
Some people love this detail.
Some people absolutely do not.
The comments section will determine its fate.

Sorry – Trying to answer all comments, can’t quite keep up!
I don't know why everyone is concerned with crumbs and roaches going under a wall instead of keeping the house clean
EAT NORMAL FOOD ON A PLATE on A TABLE ( NOT CRUMBLY SNACKS )!!!
What an absolute nightmare for so many reasons.
I actually like it
Not judging. Earn your money.
The recessed baseboard is better
May be good for hidden recessed or flush floor boards.
If it can be waterproof and you can squeeze a filter in and out, I wonder if this could be cool for a standing shower drain.
Ah the spider haven
groans in horror I clean houses for a living… I'd walk right back out of a house I saw this in.
I already watched a YouTube video about this saying that that is a massive dirt collector. Everybody who does this regrets it
It's cool don't get me wrong… but it sucks to live with
love it, I'm going to install that. I don't get why people freak out about a 5/8 recess, it's not going to be that hard to clean… And the bumping protection is taken care of by the trim, right?
Looks beautiful. These commenters have no taste (and no money 😂)
Trim and baseboard is so dated and ugly yuck
Also helps reveal all the poorly cut tiles the flooring guys hid!
Lovely dust, dander, and crumb wraps for all of your walls. Genius.. smh. Looks completely stupid, like your carpentry crew quit two days ago.. forever..again, brilliant.
Yeah. Same thoughts…it’s gonna collect a lot of crud. Plus, it also just looks like a neglected part of an otherwise nicely crafted home after you put all that work into it. So, idk. Seems like a miss for me.
Yeah, think I’ll stick with a skirting board thanks!
Now if you just imbed a shop vac along the lengths of that you’ll have a continuous bead dust pan 😂
Not sure if I like it or not, but it definitely makes the place feel more like a commercial space than residential.
Being I hate doing trim work especially crown molding (though being good at it for a weekend warrior I always get stuck doing it) I love how this looks. Looks like a good place to add LED lighting down the line too.
It looks nice, but reality is the spiders live there in dust pillows and eat the trapped crumbs.
That is hideous holy fuck lol. You guys did a great job but holy hell why would someone want that??
I'm thinking all that blending is why they designed orange peel and knock down textures
This is for people who don't clean their own house… And then can blame their hired care.
As a homebuilder I second that. I kinda despise pocket doors lol
I like the version where they cut back the drywall and baseboard is flush with the drywall above it
