The University of Utah says it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding a viral photo of a student holding a cake reading “Happy Kirkiversary,” as reports of harassment and death threats against people involved in the controversy spread online.
The photo shows University of Utah sophomore Sara Larsen holding the cake on campus Sept. 10, the first anniversary of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death.
Rylie Barnes, vice president of the University of Utah College Republicans, posted the photo to her personal X account with the caption, “What is wrong with students in Utah??” The post has since received millions of views.

For a group of people whose leader was murdered by a mob of political and religious zealots to even be on the sideline about this assassination makes me physically ill. That you would A. Allow this at the university AND B. punish someone who called it out makes me wonder just what kind of people run this joint. I've been aware for years that integrity, honesty and a code of ethics is a "fluid" idea at this university , was not under the assumption that "anything virtuous, or of good report" was a hiss and by word there. Thanks for the update. I'll make sure any young people I know or are attached to my family make a better choice than this "large and spacious building."
