Shabana Mahmood has U-turned on plans to make some migrant care workers wait up to 15 years for permanent settlement in the UK. Those earning at least £25,000 a year who arrived before May 2025 will retain their existing five-year route.
The Home Secretary says the revised plans will still save billions, but the Conservatives claim the climbdown will cost taxpayers billions.
