There are some "decent" vienna sausages but I don't know that any of them are what I'd ever call good. Gotta remember they are pretty much a cooked product thats being pressure cooked in a can that you then cook again, yeah they are gonna be squidgy.
My dad ate Ks for about 30 days straight during the Bulge. Said he never took a crap the whole time. That being said, he always told me the average GI was damn glad to get whatever they could. Once they came off the line they got 10in1s which were Bs and they instantly got the runs asap. That being said my dad loved Vienna Sausages until the day he died back in 2005 and Canadian Bacon was a Christmas Treat at our house/ 🙂
This guy talks more than he cooks
4:15 That's Tyrone Power in chow line
Coffee is critical. I’ve seen people get stabbed over coffee in prison.
Vienna sausages were one of those things I grew up with because there were a couple of periods in my childhood where we were just living on "struggle meals". It's just a cheap meat you add to something to make a meal. I don't remember ever liking them but wasn't given much choice.
The Vienna sausage is well blended so you don't notice the pork pecker.
Those "C" rations didn't just make it all the way to the Korean war — they made it to Vietnam (including expired ones). I had the great displeasure of experiencing the fabled, "ham and Lima beans"… better known as "ham and motherf*ckers." The 2nd most disgusting can was scrambled eggs and ham. Honestly, you'd almost prefer to gnaw your own arm off over having to eat that cold.
Badass, Always love from Indiana my Brother.
Lol really surprised Max had never had a Vienna sausage, considering he's a pro of sorts.
Vienna sausages are to meat as Jell-O is to fruit!
Seriously. Vienna sausages are the worst. I'd take spam over them 100/100, and i don't even like spam.
Can you look at Indian rations of WWI, the Indian soldiers who were in the British army and were serving in the war?
9:04 In World War 2 most Armies didn't have much in the way of prepackaged C and K (Assault) Rations. Also, they're Field Kitchens consisted more of Cook Pots rather than Ovens etc.
In the German Army for example. At night, a Squad would gather together their pot-style Mess Kits; and 2 runners would be sent back to the Field Kitchen to have them filled with the day's Stew. As well as bring back each man's Ration of bread and butter etc. Breakfast would consist of left over stew and bread; and Lunch would be more bread with perhaps a can of meat.
Bit off topic, but have you ever done a video on Hoover stew? If not you totally should.
17:08 I've read that something similar was done in Korea during Winter-time fighting in the mountains.
C-Rats would freeze solid. So at least one Commander arranged for Sandwiches & Pasteries to be sent up to the guys fighting in the hills.
I can sympathize with your Vienna Sausage displeasure.
Back in college, I decided to try making pizza from scratch for my girlfriend and roommates, and we topped one with whatever edible bric-a-brac we could find in our pantry. We found Vienna Sausage. The entire pizza tasted as salty as seawater with zero added texture. I haven't touched the blasted things since.
The Vienna sausages could've been a bit better if they were charred a bit via a skillet or something (yes, the instructions don't call for you to do that. I'm just saying that, if you were to make it again or if I ever make it, that's what I would do).
We call em Vi-enna sausage here in the south 😂😂😂
I can't prove it but if you add rum to pineapple milk it would taste like a pina colada.
