What Trump’s Loss Really Means w/ George Conway & Anne Applebaum

Psycho Politics’ George Conway joins host Molly Jong-Fast to celebrate what they call a spectacular repudiation of Trumpism, arguing that Republicans lost because they never truly checked Trump and that Congress’s real duty now is aggressive oversight, accountability and possible impeachment rather than “getting even.” He says the GOP is sinking under Trump’s weight, with figures like J.D. Vance and Ron DeSantis already distancing themselves, and that Democrats must move fast to hold the executive branch to the law before Republicans rewrite the story. He also explains how Republican redistricting backfired, with the party’s map-drawing strategy ending up diluting its own power in states like North Carolina, Texas and Tennessee. Later, The Atlantic’s Anne Applebaum calls the election a rejection of Trump’s authoritarian behavior and corruption, says Democrats have a brief window to show they can govern and investigate, and argues the moment should lead to structural reforms on money in politics, tech power and transparency so this kind of government abuse does not happen again.

  1. Unfortunately Trump's behavior is on brand for the Republican Party.

    War profiteering.

Rising government deficits resulting from tax cuts for the rich.

Diminished social services such as healthcare and childcare.

Incarceration for non-whites and the construction of private prisons.

Lower wages and higher prices for working class Americans regardless of skin color.

And the promise of the forceful deportation of undocumented immigrants as the solution to all of your problems.

  2. When you feel sorry for these clowns, and a genuinely good person would, think about what they would have done over the next two years if they had won – because THAT is who they are!

  3. George Conway good value as ever, but here he's being unfair to Hakeem Jeffries, who was saying what he said in the context of impeaching Trump. The Democrats, for all their big win, don't have the votes in the Senate (67 to impeach the president), unless 12-13 Republicans vote with them to remove Trump. So what he was really saying is that the Americans don't want performative politics, but effective politics. There'll be accountability, but it can't, as things stand today, take the form of removing Trump as POTUS.

  4. Trump will resign so JD becomes president n can pardon him. Then JD can brag he was president of the United States of America . TRUMPS GOING TO CUT THAT DEAL

  5. If those responsible for this evil and corrupt regime are not held accountable, then the blue tsunami will have been a waste of time, and it won't be long before another wannabe dictator and his cronies, including the disgusting billionaires who facilitated this shit show, come along and make sure they leave no room for democracy to strike back next time. For goodness' sake, don't blow this opportunity to secure democracy for future generations. A lot of people need to be serving a lot of time in prison. What the hell are we being sold by Schumer and Jeffries, that everyone holds hands and sings a chorus of Abraham, Martin and John, and then everything's forgiven and forgotten? Bullshit.

  6. It’s not just that Trump isn’t doing his job. He’s preventing the DOJ, DOD and the rest of government from doing their job. Trump and MAGA think the president should dictate government, but that is the people’s job through their representatives in Congress. That trump led confusion is what guides MAGA contempt for the majority and democracy.

  7. I feel like how bad the mid-terms were for the GOP that this has to signal the end of MAGA. If Trump even considers running for a 3rd term it would be so unpopular it would trigger yet another blue tsunami. I feel like the existing GOP in congress are going to break with Trump in order to save their jobs when they come up for their next election.
