When Does G Read Zero? Balanced Wheatstone Bridge

When does the galvanometer G in a Wheatstone bridge read zero? Four resistors P, Q, R and S, with a galvanometer G joined across the middle.

With P = 2 ohm, Q = 4 ohm and R = 3 ohm, S is raised from 2 ohm. The current through G falls, and at S = 6 ohm G reads zero: P/Q = 2/4 and R/S = 3/6 are equal. Past 6 ohm, the current through G flows the other way.

G reads zero when P/Q = R/S: the bridge is balanced. This holds for any battery and any galvanometer. At the end, your turn: one question on a balanced bridge.
