Why Can’t Your Tongue Touch Your NOSE? 👅

Try it: stick out your tongue and touch your nose. Close, right? Your tongue is on a leash: it’s tied down at the front (the little strap underneath it, the one you feel tug when you lift it) and at the back (to your jawbone and a small bone in your throat). It has no bones inside, so it stretches by squeezing itself skinny, which is why yours went pointy as you reached. Only long, stretchy tongues make it: about 1 in 10 people. Doctors even have a name for it, Gorlin’s sign, and about half of people born with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (super-stretchy joints and skin) can do it. Did your tongue reach? Yes or no?
