Why I’m Not Going Back to South America Yet

I’ve been back in Darlington for two months, and the original plan was to earn some money before returning to South America next month. Unfortunately, an accident while training for the Darlington 10K left me with a severely sprained ankle and a small fracture.

After three weeks resting at home, I’m finally managing a couple of short walks around Eastbourne Park. The ankle is improving, but being unable to do deliveries means my next adventure has been delayed.

When I eventually return, the rough plan is to start in São Paulo, travel north through Brazil and continue into French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana. Nothing has been booked yet, though, so let me know where you think my next journey should take me.

Thank you to everyone who left comments asking whether I was okay. I’m still here, recovering and already thinking about the next adventure.

  1. Oh dear, I am sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you will recover completely soon so you can resume working and gathering the money you need to come back to South America. It is good to walk to improve and make your recovery quicker. Hugs. Jorge.

  3. Good morning, Stu, and I'm sorry to hear about your predicament. I thought you were out there working, making money for your trip while the sun shines. I wish you a speedy recovery, but make sure you are fully recovered, or it will catch up with you later.

  4. Hey Stu. I'm asuming the out n about walk in the park, you are exercising on that grass ?. Would be more of a cushion effect for the "Moon Boot " You will be on ya bike in no time, then to South America …🙏✈

  5. When you get tô Brazil i would highly recommend the coast between Santos and Rio, its absolutely stunning Atlantic Rainforest with hundreds of Islands. Ubatuba and Paraty Very recommended, and there are plenty of places off the beaton tracks.

  6. Get well soon. Running injuries like that take time to heal. Certainly not fun being laid up and inactive when you’re used to being on the go. I hear it’s been very warm there in Darlo. Take care!

  7. Get Better!. Brazil's north is extraordinary. Bahía. Pessoa. Never been in Guyanas, I understand now is very expensive for what it offers (if budget is an issue). Another option and better in the logistics is the Andes: Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. You get all the Andes countries. And if you hit them in January you get dry weather in the coast but rainy in the hills. If you haven't been it is extraordinary. You can do Bolivia, and go through lake Titicaca (stop at Copacabana) and go to Peru. Both are great options. But for diversity and for content, I think Andes might be better.

  8. I was beginning to wonder why you hadn’t posted any recent videos. So sorry to hear about your injury. I’m still looking forward to your future travels/adventures whenever that may be. Sending Get Well Wishes Stu! 🙏✨

  9. Know that feeling stu, it was this time last year i was in the Memorial with a broken knee, and cos i was on my own, ended up in Rydal nursing home till i recovered, ha ha, that was an experience, take it easy mate, get well soon 😊 😊 !

  10. "I'm so sorry that happened 😔 I know you were really looking forward to this trip and you must be so bummed right now. But the most important thing is that you take care of yourself and get 100% better. We can reschedule the trip, but a good foot doesn't just come back easily.
