Why PSG v Barca Was The Perfect Example of Modern Football

Download Fotmob:

PSG beat Barcelona 4-2 in one of the best Champions League games of the season. They had less of the ball but managed 22 shots and 3.7 xG. In this tactical analysis, we break down how both teams press, why PSG’s aggressive man-marking set up so many chances, how Barcelona’s high line and zonal shape responded, and why individual duels are now deciding the biggest games in modern football.

  1. It should not be ignored that Rodri did not play and that he took the field with a name that was difficult to even play in mid-table teams like Bernal. Pedri and Raphinha also exited the game. There are 3 missing in PSG, but Frenkie, Rodri and Pedri will eliminate PSG in the Barça elimination system with their midfield

  2. Nearly 3 years since I subbed to Football Meta and I'm still struggling to find any other football channel with the same level of analysis and that can make me learn new things with every new video like Cormac does.

One line of thought to explore about high pressing teams is how they would perform against opponents who refuse to play out from the back and just send long balls on every goal kick like most teams did before 2010 approximately. Essentially seeing the ball as a hot potato and letting your opponent handle the risk of playing out from the back against your press (like PSG does on kick-offs).

  3. I think barcelona is definitely THE team that can catch up or maybe even surpass psg. This 4:2 game was actually a lot closer than it seems. Psg were better obviously but barcelona wasn't shy at all.

  4. Luis Enrique is the best manager in the world and it's not close. already 2 trebles with 2 different teams and now going for 3 UCLs in a row. PSG are the best team i've seen since Zidane's Madrid and (again) Enrique's Barcelona.

  5. PSG beat Barcelona 4-2 with less of the ball but 22 shots and 3.7 xG — so is possession officially dead in modern football? If man-to-man pressing and individual duels now decide the biggest nights, is the beautiful game still about control… or about who dares to hunt?

  6. arab money clubs are disguuuusting their money should be banned. Without that dirty money psg would continue to be nothing like it always was.

  7. This match was a tactical masterpiece from both sides. High pressing, lightning-fast transitions, and players technical ability under pressure… This genuinely was the absolute definition of modern football! 🤯⚽

  8. The difference was the defence. Barcelona doesn't have a defense. PSG has had salary margin and money to buy the best players they want in any positions while Barcelona doesn't have any of the two. On equal financial capacity I think Hansi Flick is on the same level as Luis Enrique.

A backline with 3 Academy players and a defensive midfielder from the academy.

Cancelo is not a defender anymore.
