In this video we walk through seven of them, one at a time. Why a good afternoon can still leave you tired three hours later. Why a noisy restaurant wears you out more than the people at your table.
Why the chair you always sit in isn’t a habit but a choice your body made. Why decades of being nicer than natural leave a mark that only quiet can smooth out. And why, after sixty, the math of who’s worth your evening changes for the better.
We also talk about the line that matters. Loving your home and your home being good for you are not always the same thing, and knowing the difference is what lets you relax about everything else.
Which of the seven sounded the most like you? Tell me in the comments — I read them.

✏A quiet thought while making this:
I kept coming back to something simple while writing this one.
Rest isn't the opposite of a full life — it's what keeps one possible.
A quiet afternoon isn't time you failed to fill. It's the reason you'll have
something left to give when someone needs you on Thursday.
Did your quiet give something back to you today?

All the above, I have worked in many different fields in my life but all of them dealt with people. When I moved out of the city to help my Dad with Mom I never realised how much of a life line that would become for me. After Mom passed away I realised that Dad was not managing things on his own. So between my husband and I it was decided I would stay out here with Dad while he stayed back home with looking after his Dad. We talk and txt all the time, we never had children due to complications so that made our choices so much simpler, every 6 months we would drive to the halfway point between both homes 404km each way for both of us, the equivalent of an 8-9 hour drive for both of us. We would spend 4 days together just walking through the parklands and holding hands we have been together for 39 years now we are both home bodies I always insisted that every other Friday he kept his get-together with his high school mates, sometimes I would join them when the other girlfriends and wives went.
Our 6 monthly trips got cancelled due to COVID lockdowns as I live in QLD and he’s in NSW, once a week I use to go and play cards with a group of people but a new person joined the group and made me feel unwelcome amongst my friends so I stopped going, that was about the same time that Dad’s dementia started to get worse and he had a few falls that had placed him in hospital so I no longer felt I could leave him alone and I felt relief that I had a valid excuse to use.
I have felt more alone in a group of people than I have ever done on my own, on my own I have my many hobbies to keep me busy, I’m just to busy having fun with my hobbies to feel lonely, yes my Dr gets angry with me as it had taken him a few years to finally get out and socialise, even my Dad gets angry because I started feeling like a spare wheel when at cards with my friends when this new person joined the group.
It’s a small town I live in so when rumours started to do the rounds about me I realised this person did not want me going to my card club. My friend when she found out got really peeved, not with me so she asked her Dad what had been happening when playing cards, I did not realise that he had noticed, but he told her that I had stopped talking altogether at cards, he was right I had, because every time I went to say anything this person would talk over me until I stopped altogether.
I tried to just got for the first half of the time from 1pm to 3pm that’s when we stopped playing to have arvo but rather than stay for a cuppa I would just pack up and leave.
I have never felt lonely on my own, I have many hobbies that I can do at any given time. I sometimes regret at letting myself being pushed out of the one thing I did love doing and had missed doing since Mom died, as Mom and I would play card games or scrabble all the time, and the Tuesday afternoon cards made me feel as if Mom was there with me.
I keep promising that I would go back to playing cards again but every Tuesday midday rolled around and I would find a reason for why I could not go yet again.
Maybe this Tuesday will be different, I don’t know and won’t know until it’s 12:30pm
Alone is not lonely!
This is TRULY SILLY based on everyone being a VICTIM. Pay no attention and watch something upbeat or educational.
I love being alone at home. I am stressed out by people – probably because i have as-yet-undiagnosed ADHD and autism. People don’t understand me and i can’t mask. I am constantly judged by people who don’t understand. I spend a lot of time on social media with friends I’ve never met F2F. When I’m with most people, they try to change me. Almost all of my friends and relatives have passed away.
Yes, some of this is true. But I live in a senior complex and go, go, go constantly. I'm much younger mentally than my years. I do HIIT class and Pilates. But most of the residents are fat and watch tv ALL DAY. I don't have time to be lazy.
I hate having to go out and socialise. I am 83 and go to church on Sunday morning. I get a lift. But they all want me to go on Sunday night as well. I feel drained by evening. They want me to go to prayer meeting and coffee mornings but I am not keen. I like people but not all the time. I love home!!
I pray for my friends and family and read and crochet, garden, cook, go shopping. It's all more than enough for me. I get tired by other people. I love music, my books and my silence.
I HATE the AI voice reading this. The info might be good, but I’ll never hear it because I cannot stand listening to AI who doesn’t even know simple punctuation. Sentences. Come. Out. Choppy. 😠.
Loath these type of videos AI
Since WHEN is 7 hours considered MORE than HALF one's waking hours? If you double 7 you get 14 which leaves 10 hours of sleep, and you think we should sleep even more? AI is ridiculous. It says things that don't make sense and acts like it's the 'word'. Anything above 8 hours is more than half.
I have a very rich inner life! I’m 70 and took a year off to travel by Gods grace. I live alone and can sit in complete silence for hours I am blissfully happy no one is asking anything from you neither good or bad.
I was super active and always around people though loving solo hikes, books etc. At 60 I am not like a 3 or 33 year old. We change😊
I was this way all my life. I went out when I needed to. Same now. People are too fake and full of themselves. Now, that I am older I go to the library alot. I take walks and enjoy being alone. I see people, when I choose to.
I live alone and have always liked being alone, not lonely. I'm 80 years old, I only have a son and his family
who live in the same state where I live. My other children live in other states.
I enjoy the peace and quiet of being on my own. There is no need to be socially competitive. My neighbours, family and extended family have noticed how I am very contented with how life affects my personal life. It has shown how calmness and stability widens a friendliness circle of people. 😊
Oh i thought this was going to be the Woman in the picture talking anout her life as an older woman.
But no it's yet anothr Man with wisdom to share, using a misleading picture to draw women in.
Im out at 1.50.
🇬🇧
Here’s an extra reason. I live in Calif.
This is CCP propaganda. The best seniors can do is get up and go enjoy the world. Don't fall for this negative info. They want you to be depressed and fearful
Introversion has absolutely nothing to do with shyness. It has everything to do with how you charge your batteries and restore yourself. My extroverted daughter charges her batteries by being around people, especially her friends. I love being around my friends, but then I recharge with alone time.
I wasn’t quite a senior yet when I up and moved 800 miles away. My kids were all grown… my second daughter a drama queen and I was exhausted by all the drama. My career only required being near to a good airport so moving was easy. A month and a half after the move, I was adopted by my precious Beau, a mini dachsie. And when I wasn’t on the road for business travel, it was just me and Beau. I loved it.
I Just Want to Stay Home
I am 82years old and live in the middle of nowhere. I do not drive and there are no buses here. I get my shopping online so I don't go out often only to walk for two hours a day with my dog seldom seeing anyone. All my old friends have died. I am on my own 98% of my life now and am happy with it all. I read, paint and listen to music.
It's been a year since I retired. Not ready yet.
My daughter bought me a sign saying….I am sorry but I have plans with my dog. That is so me.
Last week I took an extra 3 days off work and didn’t feel guilty at all
Coming from a large family, and having a large family myself, I was suddenly thrust into an enforced, unexpected quiet, when my busy husband died suddenly. Grief took alone time, as well as, time with others grieving the same loss. Over time, in my late seventies, I started craving time alone. Processing a 44 year marriage, and feeling the first “aloneness” in a lifetime of shared spaces, I found a person I was missing…me…I never regretted an hour of my former life. It was fruitful. I had spent time being educated, earning my Juris Prudence, JD, in law school, raising with great joy and vigor, 5 successful children, now grown, and my being active in charities. But, now all that past, and “crickets”! Slowly, I reemerged as a friend, who could be reached, however, on different terms, and time to really invest in devotions, study, and peace of my Christian faith. All is well, all is voluntary, and all has its own growth season. Lonely? No, I can count on one hand feelings of loneliness.
I’m 74 years old. I had a very stressful job for 30 years, and a stressful time with my children, identical twins, born at 29 weeks in 1981 and not expected to live. They lived, thanks be to God, but they both had special problems. My husband had a job which took him away more often than he was at home. Now, I’m utterly exhausted. I feel like I’ve used up all of my stress energy just to get to this point. All of this to say that being home in peace and quiet with my husband is where I most want to be. This video is right on target for me.
While I enjoy being with some people occasionally, when I get home, I'm overwhelmed by the thought: is that all there is? I feel empty.
I keep being invited to family dinners, but politely turn them down. I no longer want to go through the process of getting ready.
I enjoy researching information and watching documentaries on YT and old, old movies.
As an only child, I suppose I've gotten used to alone time and as some others have said, I had a job that required meeting many deadlines so living a "no deadline" life has become very comfortable. At times it frightens me a bit, but it is how I prefer to spend my time.
Enjoy your life regardless of how you choose to live it. Be kind when turning down invitations and stay connected by phone, if you choose to. It's your life.
I hate traffic. It makes me so nervous driving to and from restaurants shopping anything.
It always hits me the next couple of days. Too much stimulation. It wears me thin. I hear everything. It’s an adrenaline cortisol rush. I have to have a couple of hours for me from 1pm to 3pm.
I was a clinical social worker. I had to help others work through their emotions, worry if they might be suicidal. Constantly carrying others after my children were grown. In my later years I had to travel to see these people, carrying their feelings with me . When I retired I was so glad to have the pressure off my back. While working I did not have much down time, when I came home I had paper work to do to document my visits. I retired at ,67, now 82. I do not like leaving the house. Some of my friends go to bingo, I tried but just found it an effort. Glad to stay home.
This is me
When I retired all I wanted was peace and quiet. I worked in a hospital and was always needed. I didn't want to be needed any more. I moved across country, took a small apt, and now putter as much as I want. If I want to wander around the library looking at movies to check out, I do. Saying hello to the neighbors, sitting on my porch, rearranging plants, going to bed at 7pm just to read a book, no TV, no radio, it's all good. If I don't want to wash dishes for 2 days I don't. If I dont want to make the bed, I don't. If I want to play solitair with a glass of wine, I do. I've told my kids if they want to see me they have to come here. I'm not driving there. I don't dress up, I don't put on makeup, I go barefoot and wear torn shirts b/c I want to. I am not responsible for snow plowing or mowing the grass or for house repairs. People say I am wasting money renting, but it all comes down to peace of mind.
It's safer there
As a widow of 5 years & raising children a long time ago I actually enjoy doing exactly what I feel like or doing nothing much at all. The peace & quiet everyday is restorative & restful. One’s home is now a sanctuary.
Ah home alone .. i never feel alone in fact i talk to myself ..i,m very social when i go out even crack jokes with people
i talk with ..make them laugh why be miserable ? Then you find people smile when they see you ..because your fun
and not miserable or boring …but i still love my existence at home ..i dont crave travel or holidays like i used to .
I do notice that time goes faster somehow the older you get …a bit ironic i suppose ?
Introversion is NOT shyness. Please use correct definitions.
Number 7 = exactly 💯
I dont mind staying home. As Im getting older I dont mind be home. But i dont like being alone all the time.
YEAH, what that ai/robo said! The message is real.
It’s all true
So I am not alone ❤👍
