When a theory makes a prediction that disagrees with an experimental test, sometimes it means we should throw the theory away. But what if that theory has otherwise produced the most successful predictions in all of physics? Then, that little glitch may be pointing the way to layers of physics deeper than we’ve yet imagined. Well, FermiLabs Muon G-2 experiment has been chasing the most promising glitch of all, and they’ve just announced their results.

  2. I'm picturing these "particles" as similar to how oobleck looks on a speaker, but spherical and suspended in empty space. Globby, vibrating fluctuations of fields, which vibrate themselves apart when in less stable combinations. The muon is seemingly a more massive, less stable gloopy blob than the electron, but otherwise similar

  3. When i was getting my physics degree at UMass Amherst I got to do an independent study with prof. Stephane Willocq who was a professor there, but also the physics coordinater for the Atlas program. I got to do cool simulation analysis using some of the g2 muon data. I didn't continue down the particle physics route, but it was an awesome experience none the less!

  4. If the universe is fractal and particles are energy trapped in a fractal dimension, the values of the fine structure constant (α ≈ 1/137) and mass of particles can only be calculated using mathematical constants. Here are the best approximations I was able to calculate:

    α = 1꞉ ᴾᴵ√ ̅̅ ̅̅ ̅̅(2⁴+5⁴)ᵠ · e⁵ ̅̅ ̅̅ ̅̅ (fractal ratio)

    α = 1/[(2^4+5^4)^φ*e^5]^(1/π) = 0,0072973525677660… φ = 1,6180339887… golden ratio, e = 2,7182818284… (Napier's constant, Euler's number)

    electron(mᵉ) = 0,510998950 MeV

    A muon is an electron trapped in a fractal space with dimension = e (2.7182…)

    muon (mᵐ) = 105,658373568 MeV = mᵉ · ᵉ√ ̅̅ ̅̅(2⁴+5⁴)·(5⁵-2·3³)̅̅ ̅̅ e = 2,7182818284… (Napier's constant, Euler's number); mᵐ = muon mass ; mᵉ = electron mass

    mᵐ = mᵉ * [(2⁴+5⁴)*(5⁵-2·3³)]^(1/e)
