Why Won’t My Trainer Ride THIS Horse??

Watching Daphne grow from a newborn foal into a horse starting her under-saddle journey feels so special. 🐴💕

Today, I’m taking y’all along for Daphne’s second ride! Stephanie starts with long lining in the round pen, then Prarie gets on while we work through steering, forward motion, and Daphne’s trickier right lead. I also share why Daphne started a little later than our other two-year-olds and why we’re so proud of how she’s doing now.

Seeing her move around the round pen brought back memories of baby Daphne running through the pasture. We’ve watched her grow up together, and I loved getting to share this next step with y’all.

Let me know in the comments what questions you have about starting a young horse under saddle!

  1. Pulling her toward the wall so she has to step her hip over, instead of away from it, is one I hadn't heard for a horse that won't take the right lead. Did she pick it up any easier on the third ride?

  2. I get the impression Stephanie wasn’t 100% happy with the way they rode her, I think Stephanie prefers a gentler approach rather that a yank emergency stop EVERY time. Colts and mares are VERY different creatures, there’s a saying that you tell a colt but always ask a mare.

  3. Katie I just found out in America
    Quarter horse cross with thurbred
Are used as Polo ponies .
The game of polo is amazing had you thought about checking that out?
Love to see one of yours playing polo!!!!!💖

  4. Wehr nature center guided tour or Retzer! Schlitz Audubon also have their ambassador birds as well and sometimes do presentation events though I haven’t seen any in a while.

  5. People talking about wally. Please understand hes actually really laid back horse. Hes not a reactive type horse. Daphne is more sensitive & reactive type personality. A young stallion handled correctly is not harder to handle if there are not mares in heat around him

  6. @KatieVanSlyke It’s so amazing to see Phoebe (what a mama look alike) have come so far. And you…you’ve come so far! Thank you so very much for sharing this whole crazy and beautiful trip with us.
