A #shorts video which is a bit of a PSA (public service announcement): if you are installing a high end graphics card that has peak power usage of MORE THAN 250w (watts), you should run multiple, separate cables to it from your PSU. Otherwise you could be underpowering – and harming – your expensive graphics card. #PCBuild #GPU #PSU

My 5070 12 gb asus has one 8 pin socket but goes out as Y branch,do I need two separate cables from psu to connect to it or not please ?
Power supply has 2 connector but my graphics rtx3080ti has 3 connector, should I connect?
Lol you don't have to do this with Corsair PSUs, they literally have an article on their website that says this "If you have a GPU with two 8-pin PCIe connectors, its approximate power requirement is in the range of 151-300W. As a result, you'll only require a single cable with pigtail connectors (assuming you're using a CORSAIR PSU), rather than run two individual cables. If you have a GPU with three 8-pin PCIe connectors, then it'll also be perfectly fine to use one pigtail connector paired with an individual one."
The 150watt rating is for the connector head, not the cables themselves, high quality PSU can run over 300 watts of a single 8 pin pig tail connector because they use a heavier gauge wire…….
Let’s say I did use it the splitter one would that explain why my graphics drivers keep installing every so often on there own 😂???
What if I use it for mid range 2 gpu 6600 xt?
I have an rx 9070xt and I have the same cables here with me, I havent installed it yet will it most likely explode if I do this? it goes 2 entry for 8 pins and I have a pigtail 2×6+2
9070 xt here was wondering the same thing even before the video.
Thank you so much bro… Found this video when i prepare for 3080Ti 🔥
is using a pigtail safe for a 220w 9070?
thank you!!!! this info was the last info I needed to build my 1st pc!!!!
You also dont get the same game play full 4k quality or fps it doesn't nessacarily increase it but the split power with 2 cables supplies full power so it will run better / smoother then if you were to use yhe single cable with pig tail. This make low fps and glitchy screen lines ect. I was gonna buy an new graphics card until I thought of this and it actually worked it became more stable with the 2 8 pin cables
what about non modular?
Finally saw something that helped me. I was wondering which of the two from the pigtail should i use since they initially look different. Good thing I can use either of them. I'll just decide on which depending on the length that I need since the other end has a slightly longer reach. Thank you
Sure if above like 250w. Below pigtail is fine. But if you can help it 2 seperate.
Add info,..
Power from
Mobo pcie slot, 75watt
6pin, 75watt
6+2/8pin, 150watt
Official rating.. might vary depends on cables and psu
Why not simply consult the PSU manufacturer instead of blindly following internet myths.
What if my psu have only 1 and 1 atx3 a750bn msi ? Gpu is rtx 3070
It gets 225w 150 from pci 75w from pci slot
I used two 6+2 cables with a 6conneftion daisy chain having off, connected the 6+2 pin parts to a 12 pin adapter it came with and it won’t power the gpu/ I get a red light and no display, any thoughts?
i have a question can you use two pigtails too power two 8 pins like 4 total 8 pins from the two pigtails but only using two? Is that safe?
If the daisy chain does about 225 watts and the motherboard provides 75, doesn't this mean you can run high end 2 8 pin connector graphics cards with an undervolt?
so I've been using my rtx 3080 with just 1 cable for years now and, (comparing how my games look vs how games look on my friend's computers), my games have always looked slower while my friend's games looked faster, despite them having less fps than mine. is it because i have only been using 1 cable instead of 2 seperate ones?
i got a msi a650bn that has a single cable 6+8 pins along with a pigtail, what gpu can i use with this psu
Reading the replies I am so confused now. In my case I want to upgrade to a RTX 5070 with a 250W TDP, the PSU can deliver 850W and it has the pigtail connector. I've seen tests around and the gaming consumption is around 190-210W. In that case, can I connect my GPU with the pigtail connector without issues?
Is using 230w gpu like the 6700xt on a same daisy chained 8+6pins safe??
Thank you so much for this video, cs2 was causing powerspikes which would cause my gpu to pull above 250w and shut my gpu off
What if my power supply is full on the pcie slots what should I do
Then my question is why the hell does it have 2 pcie headers, almost side by side?
Gona test this when i get home, iv been having issues when trying to power up my pc and the card runs but doesnt display anything on the display, all of a sudden jst stops working
Bro I have a Rx 7600 xt with cooler master 650 watt bronze psu that has pig tail pcie , can it run properly or I need to upgrade the psu (broke rn)
