Plus that Post-Credit Scene goes places I DID NOT expect for Season 3! (That they set up perfectly in retrospect!

The second season of the American animated television series X-Men ’97 is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team X-Men. The series is a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992–1997), continuing the story of the X-Men. In the season, the X-Men are scattered throughout time—from Ancient Egypt to the far future—and must find their way back to the 1990s to stop Apocalypse. It is produced by Marvel Studios Animation, with Beau DeMayo as head writer and Jake Castorena as supervising director.
Ray Chase, Jennifer Hale, Alison Sealy-Smith, Cal Dodd, J. P. Karliak, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Matthew Waterson, Ross Marquand, and Adrian Hough star as members of the X-Men. Sealy-Smith, Dodd, Zann, Buza, and Hough reprised their roles from the original series. Work on the season began by July 2022, with DeMayo and Castorena returning. Voice recording began by February 2023, writing was completed by March 2024, and animation work was underway by then. DeMayo was fired by Marvel at that time and Matthew Chauncey was hired to replace him as head writer in July. Chauncey oversaw rewrites for the season.
The season is scheduled to premiere on July 1, 2026, on the streaming service Disney+, and will consist of nine episodes. A third season was confirmed in March 2024.[1][2]

New to the channel. I enjoyed your thoughts on the series. Been following Uncanny X-Men since 1987.There is SO much to interface into these series,but overall its been pretty good.Some improvements are need,but hopefully Marvel will make the best decision for the sake of the comics and fan base.💙X💛

It was very obvious that they brought in the writers from What If for this season after Marvel TV's internal drama…. Not only were there sprinkles of "What If" vibes, but those writers don't know what the fans want

I feel Storm hardly had an impact after episode 1. She had 1 line in the finale and we saw her in action for 15 seconds. I'm not a huge fan of 97 unfortunately.

We NEED 12-13 episode seasons or long episodes to let these narratives breathe. I loved the episodes focused on other characters but we did so at the loss of others.
Episodes 1-4 built epically.
Episodes 5-7 are less epic but character centric that felt like X-men.
Episode 8-9 fell for me.
Season 2 was total shit. I've officially given up on the MCU.
Before I hear your thoughts, I loved the first 4 episodes but I went a bit of the rails for me in the second half. The Finale was fantastic though. And I'm still excited for season 3. Hope we do get it next year and not a 2 year wait again.
10 episodes needed to happen, really frustrating that they saw the success of season one and dropped an episode. However I still think the show as a whole is great A- overall, the Gambit stuff was actually more interesting to me then doing Onslaught this early on. It felt rushed at the end but otherwise I enjoyed it.
X-Men 97 season 2 is a remastered version of how they did the OG X-Men animated series. Still fun and brings a level of joy but def rushed and some scenes seemed cobbled together and the animation had some noticeable drop offs in effort.
Whenever I see Celestials in the X-Men world…i immediately think of the comic story Manifest Destiny. Is that gonna be season 3? 🤷♂️ so many thoughts! But quick overall review, season 2 gets a B. With A- being it's peak in moments.
I really liked this season. I understand the criticism you have, it just didn't bother me. I really liked the finale too.
Well, X97 restored the aura to Cyclops, and feels like they felt S2 was best way to try and restore or fix the issues they had w/ Eternals, and hopes to bring back more interest in them overall through marvel.
It was a fun season. We had never analyzed ep by ep back in X-men cartoon original run. Can’t wait for S3. Just wish all episodes this season were longer.
This was incredibly rushed. Almost forced ? Season 1 flowed so well even with side stories in space or storm/forge.

I spoke to Terry Matalas late last week at Star Trek’s annual Las Vegas con. He said the VisionQuest trailer drops within a week or two, and the show drops mid or late October, I think. Double check IMSb on that.

It’s actually insane how little I cared about the season finale considering how invested I was 4 episodes in. It’s like the writers were ahead of schedule after the first 4, then fucked around for awhile and then remembered they had 5 episodes to write 3 hours before deadline. Apocalypse deserved a better story

You can tell the ones DeMayo done with heart versus the others that were typical basic episodes. No feeling to absorb with Gambit & Rogue uniting. Nightcrawler thing hurts but the way ended didnt lead to anything other than Mystique. Looks great though

The nightcrawler twist makes perfect sense and I didnt see it coming which feels refreshing.
Really good season. This season reminded me of the frustrating non-linear story continuation of the original 90s show. Hopefully season three releases on Saturday mornings because that would be cool.
Off topic kind of: I hope live-action Magneto is an Arab/Muslim because to me it just makes a lot of sense to mirror more current real world events for X-Men.
In defense Screencrush called Artie Leech which is way like worse. VisionQuest/Daredevil could be the last of television Marvel waiting on Lanterns like there.
Really hoping we do see more of Chamber next season, been interested ever since i saw the clip of that podcast where you described him, if i remember correctly “wolverine without being wolverine” was mentioned and that’s what stuck with me
Season 2 disappointed me. Started off strong then went downhill. They undid Wolverines bone claws, huge plot device in the last season. They just erased it and did nothing with his character in this season. Apocalypse isn't even his own character in this. And again they just undid another huge plot twist: Gambit's death. Why are we throwing away everything that happened on season 1 to set up a very bland future for this series? Hired new writers who don't care about comics… Sucks.
To Nightcrawler god is god. Nightcrawler does not think of a celestial as a god. He simply chose to sacrifice his life to a powerful sentient being, for friends he dearly loves.I am 59 years old. I miss those days when I just read my X-MEN comics and simply loved them without any commentary, opinions, or reviews. This animated series, this episode was amazing.
Do you think they will adapt the Amazing X-Men story by Jason Aaron where Wolverine leads a team to heaven to retrieve Nightcrawler?
I want them to do an Excalibur inspired episode for next season and introduce alternate reality Nightcrawler and alternate reality Kitty Pryde. And then they both join the X-Men team. I don't know how else they could introduce Kitty into this universe after she has been absent for so long.
Not a fan of this ending. I hope season 3 they have better plans, this season began well, but quickly fell off after episode 4.
