You’d Do the Same | Dark Fantasy Boss Theme [Lyric Video] #dnd

You’d Do the Same is the other side of We Are Not the Same.

Two brothers. The same wounds. Different lives, different choices, and one question left unanswered: if you had stood where he stood, would you really have chosen differently?

Lyrics:

You dare erase me from your past
I stayed beside you to the last
Before they hailed you as their pride
I faced them all there at your side

They praised the heir before the crowd
And watched for ways to drag me down
I never wanted your whole throne
I wanted one we both could own

You knew their warmth, you knew their care
They taught you mercy still lived there
I only knew their judging eyes
Each sentence proved their grace a lie

You had their faith, I was raised in doubt
They pulled you close while they singled me out
Live all my years under judgment and blame
Stand where I stood, you’d have done the same

You saw their kindness before every promise had turned cold
I wore their verdict before I was old enough to know
You call yours a duty, still circling back every night
You dressed your obsession in rules till they swore you were right

You made your hurt useful, so everyone says you’re redeemed
I left mine uncovered, became what they said I would be
Trade every comfort you knew for the life handed me
Then tell me which brother you honestly think you would be

You had their faith, I was raised in doubt
They pulled you close while they singled me out
Live all my years under judgment and blame
Stand where I stood, you’d have done the same

Before they split the world in two
There was no me apart from you
Before they taught you I was wrong
You were the one who told them no

You had their faith, I was raised in doubt
They pulled you close while they singled me out
Forget the roles they gave us in their game
Look in my eyes, we are just the same

  1. So I know this is actually a response to 'We are not the Same' but honestly they feel like they're the other way around to me. I know that this one came later, and your improved skill would make people who don't suspect this, but this one is where the villain of the story tells the hero 'we aren't so different you and I spiderman' or whatever. Going on about their shared past and making excuses for whatever bad things he did. They aren't stated. While 'We are not the same' has the hero saying 'no. our differences are profound. You hurt the world. I protect it'. Its a very batman song. in my book Anyway, just going off how story telling tends to work the one from the blue brother feels like the response to the red brother's song and not the other way around. In the end its framed as making a rebuttal to an argument. This one isn't. its phrased as a bitter hello. The opening of an argument that will come to blows.

Now am I biased? Maybe. I do tend to root for the person who took their pain and decided no-one else should suffer compared to someone who decided to make the world burn. But that's just me. Well that and the majority of humanity.

  2. I think the brother deserves a retort. Having a point doesnt make you right — and if you want to do the world the way the world did you, you got what you deserved.

  3. I always thought the first song was just about Batman and the Joker. This song feels quite disconnected from the original inspiration, not that it's a bad thing.

This feels more like the Heir and the Spare, (born to a concubine), so this Spare was despised even in his youth by the high noble advisors who didn't want "common blood" to taint the line. As time went on the boys were raised close and the brothers found true solace in one another, although the ministers would never let the Spare forget what he was in their eyes. In time as the two grew up, the Spare became too competent in the eyes of the nobles and threatened the system of Primogeniture. The advisors to the king and the Crown Prince started to speak poorly and warn them against the ambitions that the other prince could hold, leading to him feeling ostracized. Even though the Crown Prince wouldn't believe a word of it, poison has a way of seeping slowly into the mind and the repeated accusations and coincidences eventually wore down the Crown Prince and the king's will until they felt they had to exile the Spare. In exile, the Spare, fed the belief from the nobles throughout his life, that he would be the chaos that would bring the kingdom down arose anew with that same fire in his heart. He rose his banner to challenge the court now that the former king had passed away. He does not plan to kill his brother or even to take his throne but to remove the rot from the kingdom. (Of course, that's what they all say at first…)

  4. I really enjoy the fact your lyrics make great character backgrounds for D&D characters. Some could make great campaign ideas even. Thank you for the inspiration such a great muse.

  5. The battle of morality, of what happens when pushed too far. When the world puts a label on you, do you succumb because you feel you have no choice. When does a man become a monster. And can they still be saved…. very nice song ^^

  6. I regret to inform you that youre not getting more popular, im just watching your videos non stop. Two things can be true at the same I guess but ive probably ran up your view count like crazy.

  7. a good song, it makes me think about many things (stuff like benefits, alienating, manipulation, plots.. like my mind made a whole story based on the lyrics).. anyway its a good song 👍
