Queensland has introduced some of the world’s strictest e-bike and e-scooter laws, requiring riders to hold at least a learner’s permit with fines of $518 for non-compliance. Police have seized almost 400 illegal devices since the crackdown began on 1 July, following six fatalities and thousands of hospitalisations from e-bike and e-scooter crashes in Queensland this year. The new regulations mandate adult supervision for unlicensed riders aged 12 to 17, with parents liable for fines if children breach the rules.
