Question: This depiction of Cannae is very different from your full video released a year ago. Is this a revised and more accurate interpretation?
This version is similar to Invicta’s recent video (which “disproves” the deep envelopment by stretching both armies so thin over a longer battle line). I disagreed with Invicta’s version due to certain assumptions, but if both channels agree on this interpretation…maybe I need to reconsider? (Huge fan of your work by the way!)
Please make a video about the story of Cyrus the Great, the conquest of Babylon, and the Cylinder of Human Rights. 🙏❤️🩹
marathon
تكتيكاتي في لعبة توتال وار 😂
its kinda risky because you are risking the anemy breaking through your line without cavalry i dont think this would have ever worked
Good old hammer and anvil. Nothing beats that!
One of those that actually work great in Total War.
ok but hannibal probably didn't order a slow retreat, it just happened that way. but who knows.
Tried once in Total war Rome 2, it kinda worked sometimes until the ai goes fuck you up your ass.
Then Scipio comes
The smell of an enemy corpse is Always Sweet – Roman proverb
Luke 13:5
I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
Isaiah 55:6-7
Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the [a]wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord,And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
Definitely the easiest to use total war tactic
Guys ist work in totalwar?😂
Honestly it just seems like ancient tactics was just "actually we do outnumber you, the cavalry were off screen the whole time," and nothing really changed until Napoleon was like "let's just blast the hell out of them with artillery in the one place that will make their whole army fall apart."
Cyrus' enemies alwys be doong the stupidest shit possible
It’s called a fucking echelon. Not a “V” formation. One of the shittiest history channels .
Hannibal from Carthage ( Tunisia today)
This is an amazing formation. It can be pulled off in many various ways
The real trick seems to be 'having elite cavalry."
Ah yes
PLS also make video showing how the formation and strategy fail…
I always find these old battlefield strategies fascinating. They seem like chess but with a bunch of complex variables , and many other things that must be taken into account in order to achieve victory. It’s through battle’s like these that today we know legendary commanders like Hannibal, Alexander the Great, and Napoleon.
An advantage of superior cavalry is definitely helpful for the scenario to be successful. A superior disciplined cavalry! ✌️
Quick question. Were Cyrus' cavs hidden? Or was it in plain sight? Because the enemy's move was pretty foolish tbh
The formation was just as wide as the Roman formation. You make it seem like it was wider and Romans just walked into encirclement like a bunch of morons. No the crescent pushes them in like you correctly show with the arrows, and then the flanks which were in fact hidden behind the crescent, not exposed on the sides, quickly encircle the enemy as well as the returning cavalry from behind.
Amazing!
Why Hannibal Barca look european in this?
The battle of Walaja (Wikipedia)
Khalid faced the Sassanids with about 5,000 cavalry and 10,000 infantry. Cavalry were divided into two equal divisions and deployed at the flanks. The strategy of the Persian commander in chief, Andarzaghar, was to go on the defensive and let the Muslims charge first. He planned to hold off their attacks until they were worn out, then launch a counter-attack to rout the weary Muslim army. The first phase of the battle went according to Andarzaghar's plan. Khalid ordered a general attack. The Sassanid army had reserves which they employed to replace their men in the front line, giving them the upper hand over the Muslim army and helping them to carry out their scheme to wear out their opponents. During this time, Khalid is said to have duelled with a Persian champion of gigantic proportions known as Hazar Mard (A Thousand Men) and killed him, which was a psychological victory for the Muslims.[9][10]
With the first phase over, the second phase began with the counter-attack of the Sassanid Persian army. Perhaps seeing signs of fatigue from the Muslim soldiers, Andarzaghar judged that this was the right moment for his counter-attack. At his command, the Sassanians, supported by the Persian heavy cavalry, carried out a general attack on the Muslim front. The Arabs were able to hold them off for some time, but the Persians pressed on. On Khalid’s instructions the Muslim centre started retreating slowly and in order while the wings held the ground. This created a crescent shaped front, allowing more and more Persian troops inside the formation.
At this moment, Khalid gave a signal to his cavalry and they charged the Persian flanks. The two Rashidun light cavalry ambushing forces led by Dhiraar ibn al-Azwar and Suwaid ibn Muqarrin charged at incredible speed and struck the rear of the Persians.[11] This mobility gave them an upper hand on the Sassanid heavy cavalry, resulting in a rout of the Persian cavalry. They attacked the flanks and rear of the Persian army and started encircling it. The main body of the Muslim army under Khalid ibn al-Walid resumed the attack against the Persian front, while at the same time extending its flanks to join with the cavalry and completely surround the Sassanids. The army of Andarzaghar was caught in a trap and could not escape. Recoiling from the assaults that came from all directions, the Sassanid army gathered in an unwieldy mass, unable to use their weapons freely. The battle was over, with heavy casualties inflicted on the Sassanid army. Nevertheless, a few thousand imperial soldiers managed to escape. Although Andarzaghar escaped Khalid’s encirclement, he got lost in the desert and died later out of thirst.
Khalid defeated Sassanians using variation of Hannibal's double envelopment at the battle of Walaja more precisely.
Can Hannibal beat the Chinese horde w this method?
I won the battle against corruption with this short, thank you
Next tactic for my total war game
This one is tricky to pull off in a Total War game. You can't ask them to move the fight in a direction without them disengaging and stabbed in the back.
First War of Annihilation!
What a genius!
Could be something more serious to but as long as I still
Hannibal 🎉
Ummm no. I think you’ll find that Charlie and the mighty ducks call this the “Flying V” as “ducks fly together”
Hannibal used a tried-and-true tactic of encirclement. This was strategy at its finest.
What people often failed to recognize, The Romans did break through the middle and usually that means they won the war so the army that breakthrough just keep on moving celebrating instead of turning around and destroy the Hannibal army. Sure Hannibal was a genius but Romans was a powerhouse and not as stupid as the stories made them out to be.
Getting lesson for my total war campaign
Time to use this in Bannerlord
One question how would they cooperate or organize while in an open field usualy far from any general,
Is it all timed ??
80000 to 8000
Why didnt Hannibal just use fpv drones?
