Shameful U-Turn by The Indian Express!
The agenda-driven newspaper 'The Indian Express', which attempted to defame Gyanesh Kumar by kicking up a row over the functioning of the Election Commission in its September 22 edition, has made an embarrassing U-turn within just four days. In today's—that is, September 26, 2026—edition, the Express published an article in its 'Explained' section indicating that what it previously stated was incorrect and led to a flawed conclusion. This article is written by Damini Nath, the reporter who regularly covers the Election Commission.
The 'Express' Clarification
In this article, Damini Nath stated that 'ever since two additional commissioners were inducted—that is, since 1993—differences of opinion have constantly arisen among all three commissioners. However, resolving matters through discussion and passing resolutions unanimously has been the standard process followed every time.' She also cited examples like Seshan, Gopalaswami, Lavasa, and others to show how these differences occasionally spilled into the public domain. According to her, all resolutions related to the SIR were approved unanimously with the signatures of all three commissioners. Therefore, there is no longer any reason for dispute on this matter.
In short, whatever I stated in my post yesterday (dated 25-09-2026) titled 'The False Agenda of Indian Express', she has affirmed in this article. In a sense, this is a stinging slap to superficial, ill-informed leaders like Rahul Gandhi.

It is also worth noting here that Ritika Chopra, who wrote the article slinging mud at the Commission on 22-09-2026, had never covered news on the Commission before.
This clearly indicates that The Indian Express deliberately published this agenda-driven article first and subsequently published today's clarification just to protect itself from backlash.
Readers should take note of this. Moving forward, it would be in everyone's best interest not to pick up this newspaper or rely on its reporting.
