On a spacewalk, temperatures can reach 250°F in direct sunlight and drop to minus 250°F in the shade. The spacesuit handles both with a white outer layer that reflects sunlight, about 300 feet of chilled water tubes next to the skin, insulation that works like a thermos, and a heater in every fingertip of the gloves.
