Artificial Gravity is weird!! Imagine yourself living on a spinning Centrifuge in space… Centrifuges in space could provide artificial gravity, not only in space stations but also in spaceships going to Mars and beyond. However, you would experience some weird things living on a centrifuge space station. Why? Let’s explore this question in this video

So i guess my question is how do we stay on earth? I mean it looks like the astronauts are on the outer circle, so how have we not flung off the planet?
now i wanna run super fast on one of these and recreate that one Wally west meme
Science is incredible ❤ If the world was as passionate about Science as they were about arguing about Religions, I can only imagine how much more technologically advanced humanity would be.
since we're dropping Scifi novels in here
in Project Hail mary, when the MC first wakes up in the station, he's immediate set off by the displacement of gravity due to the acceleration of the ship going at near light speed
later when he regains control of the ship he also uses a massive centrifuge to be able to use the equipment
amazing details all arround
if 8 billion of human running against earth rotation it will canceling earth rotation or slowing earth rotation as well?
now i wanna run against the rotation of a centrifuge and ill never get to
Is it simply curved space time?
My doggie likes yummy treats😊
"in space"there is no up or down or sideways ,there is only mass vs physics ..so a centrifuge s"down"would be relative only to its own rotational axis… there is no coriolis effect because a centrifuge in zero G is not a gravitational device its just an inertial device!
Yeah, which is why, imho, for a spacecraft, atleast, constant 1G acceleration is the best option
That, combin3d with a 'skyscraper' type craft, wherein the ship is built in floors, w the engine being in the 'basement'
I can't get my head around the "ball" statements. Why in a closed system would the ball curve? I can understand it in an accelerating system but that's not the case. Everything is stationary from the persons perspective. The person, the ball, the atmosphere, the station itself are all in a closed, stationary system, relative to one another. The Coriolis effect would be in an unaffected axis unless you're a sphere so that should be dismissed. Einstein had some thought experiments along this line using an elevator as an example. Do I have this right?
DUDE I WOULD LOVE LIVING IN THESE
I’d get elevator shifties for years
The solution to this problem lies within a "yo momma" reference.
I have my character explain this with her bicycle. When she rides downhill she has to lean to the left or she'll fall over. But to her, it doesn't seem like she's leaning; it seems like her whole little world (1 Km radius) has tilted and she's remaining upright. The getting heavier and lighter effects are too small to notice, though if you had a motorcycle…
Dropping something won’t look like that because it already has velocity from spinning.
It will continue in a straight line horizontally which means from your perspective it will curve slightly forward.. more of a J shape than what was depicted here.
Dude that ball drop animation and explanation need help.
Gravity can't be artificial.
What's weird here? It's just basic physics
Also if it's too small; your head will experience less pseudo-gravity than your feet, and sitting up suddenly will make you faint. Docking with a rotating habitat is tricky too.
but they are the future of space stations!
Kurzgesagt ahh animation but really cool to know, thx bro
but what keeps your feet on the floor?
that is one of mistakes we do all the time.
there is no artificial gravity in centrifuge. We just replaced gravitational acceleration with centripetal acceleration. Another fail is calling gravity a force – it force per unit of mass at the best (well actually precisely that it is – same as centripetal force per unit of mass can describe acceleration pretending it is gravitational acceleration – but F=m.a where m=1 makes that force per unit just acceleration again).
All this causes Flath earthers ridicule "intelligent" force – because if you say a force – everybody imagines 1 force across all the globe – which is mistake. Other people think that rotation is what causes gravity and even "highly elaborated" Creative society's videos claim that if Earth stops spinning, satellites will fly away – and only tiny fix is needed – to call thing proper names.
So, no! Gravity is not a force and spinning does not make artificial gravity. (even linear acceleration can replace gravitational acceleration for a few days if you have enough energy)
Like.. planet sized..
Разве в подобной схеме пол не должен быть расположен перпендикулярно вектору вращения?
Why not get real artificial gravity? How hard could it be? Star Trek had it in 1966!
😂❤
You could also make the spaces perpendicular to the rotation essentially creating a sectioned off cylinder.
nerf battles gonna be crazy
its not weird, its quite simple.
yes. so a rotating space station should be about a mile in diameter.
Two pods on each end of strong wire holding them together. Simple and works.
Unless the inside of the centrifuge is a vacuum, air resistance will slow stuff down
ps – Ringworld novels by larry Niven
That would great for exercise, because I run witha 20kg vest
I just now know why humans in ci fi movies make donut shaped spaceships… Thought it was a purely bad taste design.
That and motion sickness when turning you or your head. Bigger the better indeed!
