I attempted to make a hammer that could drive in nails without ever touching them using a couple of really big magnets.

The reason why magnets can slightly move non magnetic metals is called Foucault currents.
When you move a magnet you induce small currents inside conductive materials (like aluminium). Those currents create a small magnetic field opposed to the one of your magnet making it possible for the two materials to interact slightly.
Magnetic breaks are based on this phenomenon.
I hope it was helpful.
You just reinventing a pile driver…
This is EASILY the funniest/greatest video I've watched on Youtube in years. 😂😂😂
Diamagnetic materials. Aluiminum is diamagnetic weakly and theres also electromagnetic induction into metals too
THE WAY THAT HE HITS THEM OH MY GOODNES
5:29 Smoove off you say? 👀
Answer! What is happening is as you move the magnet near the aluminum you are creating eddy currents that create a drag force on the metal and pull it along with your magnet.
Pinching is the least of one's worries when dealing with powerful magnets.
Make an electro magnet hammer and a magnetic nail that has magnetic properties and make sure they repel each other. More Power in the electromagnetic more the nail goes in.
American i did a thing… sublime
That Star Wars box line is worth the Sub.
Regular hammer probably thought "Look what he needs to achieve a fraction of my power"
This guy is actually just funny, great video!
You spent all that money on taps and didn't bother to get a drill.
I've never been so entertained. this is the most ingenious attempt and the most comical thing I've seen in a while
now make a one where u have to use the hammer from down and it pulls he nail down instead pushing
Yes what's going on is it's not T6 aluminum.
I'm sorry, you turned the hammer but the flow of air stayed the same?
What a nice start..
I Can't find a single honest youtuber nowdays..
Well that was painfully disappointing.
Magnet that pulls the nail in the wood next? 🤔
You probably already know this but aluminum gets really hot during a cut and will adhere to the tool so you should use coolant to prevent that
3:57 Technically everything is magnetic. Every metal/metallic object has a magnetic attraction, but certain materials just have a higher resistance. Iirc, Veritasium has a great video on this stuff, where he uses a massive magnetic field to control a large sheet of Aluminum.
I wonder if you could use an electro magnet to pull a nail through wood from below, the hammer would essentially be for show at that point but it could be a cool trick.
If you use bismuth nails this idea might work better
What about a toroidal (donut) shaped magnet with a cylindrical magnet in the middle of the hammerhead directing the magnetism to the middle of the nail? I'm not a physicist but I'd like to see that tried, just for the funzies.
For a small channel this is great content
4:00 its probably "Diamagtism" which is an incredibly weak force that repels all items from magnets, think of pushing a small diamagnetic item across water with a magnet for example without making contact.
The problem is not that the hammer cannot express enough force, it's where all that force goes into, and that's just increasing the magnetic field density above the nail. It's not much different then trying to drive a nail into wood using a spring headed hammer
could just throw the nail really fast, maybe out of a hand held firing device. a gun for nails perhaps xD
This dudes fucking funny
3:55 if you want to know what is happening with the aluminum. Aluminum actually is affected by magnetic forces. In fact everything is too an extent. However aluminum with yes the human body, water, and wood (both types 😉), is diomagnetic. Diomagnetic things are generally repelled by magnetic faileds usually However this is weaker than magnetic things.
But (don't ask me why scientists are freaky people) using the worlds strongest magnet, we were able were able to float multiple organisms with SCIENCE! Using diomagnatsim to do so. The most prominent and the only one they released a video of floating being a small frog.
Cool idea but science says no😅
A hammer works on the concept of impulse, which goes something like force equals change of momentum over stopping time.
Well as the magnets gradually slow down each other your stopping time is huge(relatively in this context) and you also loose momentum as the hammer slows down before even significant force is put into the nail. Also with the other magnet the amount of force left over to drive the nail in is quite low.
In short terms: Not enough oomph to do shit😅
Edit: oh and about your magnet moving the aluminium pipe: For the most part aluminium is not used pure it is some kind of alloy so there might be magnetic stuff present.(and technically aluminium is magnetic though this is not relevant in any practical terms)
What i think is going on is induction if current trough the moving magnet. A lot of stuff can be manipulated that way like water for example. Turn on a tap and bring the magnet close to the flow, it will turn the water as if it was magnetic. Lorentzforce is the term here😉
Not bro casually dropping shakespeare type quotes randomly in the video
Came for the educational content. stayed for the humor
this is my first impression of you
Next time you tap holes…. hehe… use metal working oil… it works wonders!
Ah, a more sane and slightly less unhinged version of IDidAThing.
That's a subscribe for me 🙂
(And PLEASE don't take what I said as a challenge LMAO)
