Plastic vs. Wood vs. Titanium Cutting Boards

Which cutting board material is best? I tested wood, plastic, bamboo, composite, rubber, stainless steel, and titanium to see how they affect knife sharpness, noise, stains, odors, and safety. Some boards performed way better than expected, and others were a disaster. Watch to see which cutting board you should actually buy.

  1. We got the exact same wooden cutting board here and it recently got mold and we had to throw it away, I’ll be sticking with steel cutting board, they don’t keep bacteria.

  2. Do you want it to be and grain so the fibers are oriented vertically because then the board actually sucks the moisture down and that’s what does the best antimicrobial. Also, when you cut on a vertical fiber board, the board can heal so to speak where I can’t really happen if the fibers are horizontal.. lastly horizontally oriented fiber boards are far far far more likely to become jointed, split and bow.

  3. I'm going to make 3 edge-grain boards out of 'spotted gum' for my grown-up kids…and they're going to have to learn how to sharpen knives because that is one hard wood.

  4. I always ask the same question, why do we need to use plastics and alternatives when we were doing the same thing for hundreds of years? like cooking on iron pans, cutting on wooden boards and using wood utensils instead of plastic
