Nuclear Option | Aircraft MOD Review | F-99 Shrike

The F-99 Shrike is a light twin-engine supersonic fighter interceptor emphasizing fast acceleration, high top speeds, and low overall cost. Based mostly on older technology, the Shrike’s engines leverage many of the same advances found on the Eclipse, though it lacks the same fuel capacity. As a result, the Shrike will rapidly consume its limited fuel reserves when supersonic intercept is required, but can fly very aggressively while its afterburners are engaged, making it a potent, high-agility, low-stamina dogfighter and dangerous interceptor for its size and cost.

The F-99 Shrike occupies a specialized niche as a high-speed, cost-effective interceptor that prioritizes rapid response over sustained combat capability. Its ability to accelerate quickly and engage targets with brute-force maneuvers makes it a formidable tool for air patrols and airbase defense. However, these aggressive performance characteristics carry significant limitations in armor, payload, and operational range, requiring pilots to carefully manage risk, fuel, and ammunition reserves. Ultimately, the Shrike is best employed as a force multiplier within a broader defensive strategy where its low unit cost allows for numerical superiority. In offensive scenarios, the Shrike should be deployed as escorts or reserve fighters to supplement and support a mission, not as main strike or air attack platforms.

  1. Forgive me if you've already covered it in another video and I just haven't found it yet, but you should cover rolling cargo deployments with the Tarantula! It's a very difficult but very helpful skill to have 💜

  2. all of Aryx's content is really dope considering that they aren't a part of the official dev team – it's awesome to see you covering it. for real the best instructional NO content creator out there

something else that would be cool to see you cover is some concepts that aren't explained very well by the game – thrust vectoring comes to mind. I have no clue how it's done in the game. other things coming to mind are radar vs absolute altitude in the UI, how to know when a target is lased, fly by wire (are all of the aircraft fbw? some? I don't know that one either or how it affects flight performance), the fact that heat indicators exist in the cockpit, firing with the map open (I think you got that one somewhere else already), linking Brawler's autocannon + 30mm to fire together, flight assist with the 57mm Brawler cannon.

I know that isn't the type of content you mainly produce and probably doesn't warrant a separate video, but you seem really knowledgeable about how the game works as well as a lot of real-life flight concepts. hopefully that's not an uncommon sentiment and info about all of that stuff would be useful to more people than just me lol

  3. Do you think youd be willing to do a theory video.

E.g theory of AG/AA/CAP in the game? Your videos are really good and maybe it would be good for New players. Ty regardless your videos are tremendously helpful though im down right bad at the game it seems lol

  4. my favorite use for the shrike is blitzing a ship

pack some missiles to hardkill any missiles they launch at you, then drop a big enough bomb in its face (or 2, or 3) and hopefully zoom away while it's trying to deal with it.

  5. I'd love to know what setup you play with. I find some mods OP and change the game too much, F-16 for the obvious example. What do you play with?

  6. The Shrike is incredibely effective as a strike plane if you equip it with the new cluster bomb dispensers. Sure its quite risky, but you can easily destroy a small airfield in one go at the beginning of a game

  7. I love using this thing in escalation for early bombing of the k95 highway strip base. Take it up from dustbowl, accelerate to the East and use the mountain as cover before sending like 14-16 pab80-lrs at 1600 km/h and you have yourself a very emotional moment for the Aerosentry standing guard since the other IR AA can't lock the 80lrs. It's also decent for dipping over the the hillside by the coast to launch 80lrs at Shard corvettes if they haven't been already taken out. Unfortunately you'll need something bigger to do more than just disable the heavy landing craft.

  8. I haven't watched this whole video yet. But please at least include what the mod is based off of in the intro? JUST say modernized F/A-18. Boom already a better intro.

  9. I love that this aircraft can you get you from one place to another hella quickly, plus that it has a good enough loadout variety to hold you up in the first few ranks of the game. It eats through fuel like a hungry hippo tho
