This is a great way to diagnose a USB port on any computer that isn’t working. This tip will give you insight into why the port isn’t working so you know whether it’s power related or driver related and how to proceed.
If you’ve got a USB port on your laptop computer that isn’t working it’s either driver related or power related if it’s driver related you’re going to fix it in Windows if it’s power related you’re going to have to open up the computer but which one is it well one really cool way how to find out is take an external hard drive that’s working plug it into the port that is working and look for the light okay I see the light now I’m going to eject this external hard drive from the computer I’m going to take the plug and I’m going to plug it into the port that isn’t working and look for a light because I don’t see a light on the external hard drive I know that this is power or Hardware related so I don’t need to spend time trying to fix a driver and I know I need to open up this computer if found this helpful hit that subscribe button for more Daily Tech tips

my usb port dosent work please help. Only the keyboard port lights up but dosent work. And the rest of my ports are just dead dont light up, and dont work. And the keyboard and mouse only works in the automatic repair screen.
would a normal flash drive with a light also suffice?

hello my hdd has a light in the usb port in question but does not show up on my laptop. but when I plug in a ssd with a usb adapter it works. so whats my problem. is it the usb port thats a older version of usb thats why it dont work or is it a driver issue

I had bought a new ssd but I can’t boot in windows because my usb ports don’t work, how do I fix this
one of my usb ports was working fine a few days ago until i plugged a new cooling pad. the cooling pad's lights turn on but the fans dont work. when i plug my mouse on the other hand, it doesnt work.

I know what this video is old but I’ve had this problem with my laptop, my usb port did not detect anything ( mouse, flash drive, keyboard etc…) but I recently plugged in a ran light switch AND IT WORKED if you don’t mind can you please help me fix this problem because my laptop only has 2 usb ports and I can only use one of them

I've spent 5+ hours troubleshooting similiar problem. 2 of my 4 usb ports give power, but they don't detect devices (it can charge phone, headset rgb is on, but doesnt detect them)
Tried uninstalling all usb devices in devices manager, removed usb selective suspend, all drivers/os/bios are up to date, did quick ubuntu install but ports in question dont work so not windows related, discharged motherboard, reset bios
none of these solved the issue…
I'd like to add that the ports have been acting weird in the past, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, sometimes they only work with my keyboard but not headset for example, but this time they are not working at all.
