Your comments reshaped our pantry design, the hood colour vote has a winner, and the build begins. In this episode we go through your feedback on the pantry (deep drawers are in, and we need your votes on ceiling-height shelving, a utility curtain, and oak or blue interiors), then start building the custom range hood: cutting the plywood box, opening up the wall to reinforce the metal studs, mounting the extractor, and Romy’s first go at taping and skimming plasterboard joints.
We’d love your feedback on the new pantry designs, so tell us in the comments: shelving to the ceiling or not, curtain on the utility end or not, oak or blue inside the shelves.

Thanks again for your lovely and helpful suggestions in last weeks video! Please impart your collective wisdom for the new designs ❤❤❤
Just a suggestion . . . On the end cabinet next to the wall – perhaps do a tall pull out cabinet so it would slide forward in front of the window. The door handle would be on the front panel facing the electrical panel area. The hardware for the pull out would be a couple of heavy duty drawer pull out rails on the ceiling of the cabinet cavity and connected to the outer top of inter pull out cabinet, put 2 drawer pull rails underneath the same inter cabinet connected to the floor, add a backing to the tall cabinet on the wall side. (You could use wooden tongue & groove panels & stained to match the open shelf backing and finally add a couple of back wooden cross bracing members behind the backing that you could also apply drawer pull out rails to help carry the weight. / / /. On the color of the open shelving perhaps put the same stained wooden tongue and groove paneling at the back to match the pull out cabinet’s backing. Then paint the dividers, supports and shelves in the blue. Love, Love, Love your designs and talent to make everything by hand.
I think light wood shelves as a contrast to the blue would look very nice. you both have done well this time. Yes Romy, Taping and mudding the drywall as we say in the US just takes practice. I think it may be my least favorite part of renovation. I am not good even after a lot of practice. lol so guess you just have to wait and see if you like to do it.😁😉
I really admire how responsive you are with your subscribers/commenters. Always enjoy your channel.❤
Queda mejor estéticamente que lo llevéis al techo, además creo que podríais poner en los estantes superiores ( menos accesible) lo que os sea menos necesario en el tiempo, gracias por vuestros vídeos
Take the cabinets to the ceiling. Leave the utility cupboard open, the curtain will just get to be a bother, the cupboard is in the corner and really not seen until you are in front of it.
Speaking from experience, I WOULD build the main section up to the ceiling. We did this in our kitchen, and we store things in two ways: In baskets we can pull out for things we don't use regularly but are lightweight (e.g., Tupperware, extra boxes of tea stock, etc.), and as storage for dishes, serving platters, etc. that we don't use unless we've got an event. For the cleaning closet, if you go with a door, perhaps instead of a handle, you could use a push-catch release. If you're worried about it being too blue or too dark, perhaps you could paint the inner frames of the door in a lighter, complementary shade. It's something you might want to live with for a few weeks to see how it works in the physical space; you can always add lighter highlights later…
I wish you have consulted the audience before doing the hood 😢. The way you did it will work about 50%
Proponuję szafki do sufitu w spiżarni i wnętrze półek w kolorze drewna. Zawsze można je potem pomalować. A może drzwi składane i otwierane w harmonijkę zamontować w tej części koło okna? Pozdrawiam z Polski❤
More storage is always a good idea so I vote for cabinets to the ceiling. The utility cupboard at the end can have a full door on it….but no handle….just use a "touch latch".
Yes—deep drawers for the under side of pantry counter.
I’d want the upper pantry shelf to be lower than the ceiling…agree it would feel imposing.
End pantry cupboard could stay open with organized pegs for broom, vacuum hose etc.
open shelving – I like the blue interior but wood shelving outer trim.
Awesome renderings of the kitchen…which one of you made those?!!
100% take it to the ceiling. If you don’t, you’ll have wasted space and a dust trap. I also vote for a door on the utility cabinet.
My pantry has open shelves above the pantry shelves. A ladder/stair is necessary to access the above head height storage. From lived experience put on doors. The cleaning of dust is impossible. Those lift out retractable doors would be my option, if I were to do the design again. The vision with the blue & timber combination is lovely. 💙
Split doors (2) on utility cupboard.
Make sure your last shelf is 18” above the counter for work ease. (Designed kitchens for 40 years)
Hey guys, I get the impression your range hood is positioned too high. It probably won't extract very well in the end. In my opinion, you should have made it longer. Isn't there a maximum distance from the cooktop?
Yes, love pantry v2 with the cabinets to the ceiling!
Que bien 😅quedará precioso❤un saludo desde Tenerife😊
If you like the dresser look keep the doors but put wide drawers inside, a life saver for me to allow you to reach items at the back of the shelf.
Take the cupboard up to the ceiling 😊❤
Good morning. First of all I want to say I really enjoy watching your channel and seeing the wonderful progress you are making. Regarding the kitchen I would like offer 2 viewpoints. The first regarding your open shelving is that whilst I prefer the look of painting the inside dark blue, old age and learning from experience has taught me that the blue paint will show scratch marks when you take food containers off the shelves. Wood will be easier to keep looking fresh. Secondly, the tall unit at the end could be fitted with a made to measure roller blind with material of your choice. It will be far easier to access your broom etc. than a curtain and can be closed off when you wish. Hope this helps! Ayse
Yes yes yes! go all the way to the ceiling. It’s much grander. It makes the room look smaller when you don’t go all the way to the ceiling. Oddly it will make the room look and feel bigger if you go all the way to the ceiling. No curtains they look janky and gather dust.
All the way to ceiling. Use a Curtain,
