In this video, we’ll see one of the most interesting aircraft created in the United States in recent decades.
The C-17 Globemaster III is a heavy military transport aircraft developed by McDonnell Douglas in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The aircraft was based on the unique technical features of the YC-15 prototype, combining the characteristics of a medium-heavy transport with short takeoff and landing capabilities. The C-17, as its successor, retained these capabilities but became significantly larger and heavier, replacing the C-141 Starlifter. Currently, in terms of payload capacity, it is second only to the class record-holders: the C-5 Galaxy and the An-124 Ruslan.
The C-17’s history is eventful: from remarkable engineering achievements to countless challenges, both technical and political. However, in the 21st century, it has managed to shed its image as a controversial megaproject and become one of the main military transports of the US Air Force and several countries around the world. We’ll explore its difficult journey, assess its size, and learn many interesting facts about an aircraft that only appears to be a large flying truck.
Thank you for watching!

How dare YouTube hide this from me for a month. Thank you for the video!
it would be nice if there is a AC-17 with full of guns and cannon 🤣
I see very familiar switches and cockpit arrangement, just as the MD11 and 717
Boeing has floated the idea of putting the C-17 back into production, if they get enough firm orders.
Its the lesson, every time the military "saves money" during peace time we pay for it later, and the money saved is squandered regardless.
I was a structural inspector on the wing skin development team from 1988 to 1992 before moving to the MD-11 program with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company. ❤
ИЛ-76 копия С-17 или наоборот? Я запутался… Это шутка если что.
Great and very detailed video. Always love your content! One of the best aviation content on YouTube!
Elite level documentary here! Love it all from an aviation perspective.

copied by ccp.. they called it y20..
I will never be able to unsee that fairing asymmetry!
I have a relative who worked on C-17 contracts.
They always told me that the reason for the doors on top of sponsoons for the landing gear tops when extended is that they didn’t design it with enough space and the easiest fix was just to add doors on top for the landing gear to poke through
I had one taxi behind me in a Cessna 172. When we turned for our run up, we saw that beast!

The C-17 is the sexiest cargo plane by far. the other planes are like large girls, not pretty, but they get the job done, the Il-76 is some crazed emo chick where the same applies. the C-17 is a fully-grown specimen that will give you the ride of your life.
c17.
Indian airforce wants more c-17 but the Boeing discontinued of construction
I have some footage of my time on a Canadian C-17 during Military Family Day. https://youtu.be/mBVaCCgAKZg
❤ Great video
I hope Iran can disable these plane and makes war stop
They should reopen production with more composite materials New engine and new cockpit
I really like this super lifter ! A really interesting and informative video, thanks
The American government paid $149,000 for it's soap dispenser!
Yep, America is so screwed up. Just somewhat less than every other country.
We get these flying over southern Israel with sad regularity nowadays. Such a beautiful big bird to see overhead though.
15:15 tell them it helps straighten up the flight aerodynamics in its trajectory. 😅
See them regularly…FFO………..Rhino 50..Rhino 51……wpafb
30:51 lol that flag is hanged incorrectly
The AN-124 is no longer with us anymore. Hopefully she will be rebuilt one day by Ukraine 😢
It's interesting to see someone actually acknowedge the issues a Western-made plane faced. With regular English-speaking channels you'd get the impression that every piece of machinery was perfect on first try, whereas Soviet ones were always a "disaster" supposedly wreaked with corruption or something.
Even though, you expose some problems here, it isn't done so condescendingly. It's still respectful, which is greatly appreciated.
This is why you are one of the best (military) aviation channels there is. Frankly, most others are highly ideological, blatant, chauvinistic propaganda.
9:24 those are extended range fuel tanks
Another unsurprisingly excellent video from our beloved Sky.
