Clocks go back one hour on Sunday, October 25, 2026 in the UK and EU, and on Sunday, November 1, 2026 in the US and Canada.
Benjamin Franklin didn’t invent daylight saving time: his 1784 letter to the Journal de Paris was a joke telling Parisians to get up earlier to save candles (with cannons fired at sunrise). The real idea came from New Zealand entomologist George Hudson (1895) and British builder William Willett (1907). Germany and Austria-Hungary were first to use it, on April 30, 1916, to save coal during the First World War.
Your phone changes time by itself thanks to the tz database, a free, volunteer-maintained record of clock rules worldwide since 1970, updated whenever a country changes its rules.
