  1. 1. We need to use the right size of catheter for the size of person…adult should have a 20 to 18 G catheter…kids 24 to 22G…small adult may use a 22G..

    2. NEXT..secure the cath as soon as you get it in use stopper at top of cannula needle to close it off
.use a typical looped x tape to secure it…then a piece straight across..to secure it…wrap and secure it with Cling…should be good..also clean with alcohol and use gloves maybe some triple antibiotic oinement to stop phlebitis…good graphics..

  2. I used to draw blood and was trained to insert IV's (just basic skills, nothing complicated). I also have been in the hospital quite a bit because I have acute hepatic porphyria and asthma. Time and time again, I will be in the ER and need an IV, and they go in at too high an angle – so it will fail or not even go in at all. Do nurses take offense at a patient asking if they would insert the needle more parallel to the skin?

  3. Ohhh so thsts why my arm was absolutely killing me 3 days ago in the hospital i kept complaining about it and they didn't take it out till i git discharged even though i had a better on e in my other arm 🥲

  4. Whenever ive gotten an iv, they "replaced" the metal needle with a bendy plastic one that allows more movement, and i feel like that would also decrease the risk of this happening? Anybody know the difference between leaving the metal needle vs the plastic tube?
