Deep beneath the ocean, scientists discovered something that looks almost like a lake sitting on the seafloor.
These strange formations are called brine pools — extremely salty and dense bodies of water that collect beneath normal seawater. The conditions inside can be lethal for many marine organisms, creating a completely different chemical environment just meters away from the surrounding ocean.
