Dump truck crashes into Waiawa overpass on H-1



A dump truck became lodged under the Waiawa overpass on the H-1 eastbound Friday, causing heavy traffic and two lane closures.

  1. The problem wasn’t that the driver didn’t know the clearance of his truck. The problem was probably that he didn’t know or forgot that the trailer was lifted.

  2. There were at least 50 ways that could’ve been prevented. 49 of which either truck manufacturers should have a safety device not allowing the truck to be driven past a certain speed, or the trucking company could implement/engineer a similar safety device sounding an alarm to let drivers know that the bed of their truck is not lowered. Also…One of which is a shame to any one of those surrounding drivers who seemingly were not willing to get in front of the truck driver to stop him or at least blow their horn at him to signal the inherent danger…c’mon people of Hawai’i…where’s the Aloha Spirit…?!
