Casio’s new G-Shock GAC-2500 is the most hyped watch of the year and almost nobody has told you what it actually does. I read the official Casio manual for module 5757, cover to cover, and the spec sheet tells a very different story from the press photos.

Full analog. No timer. No alarm. No world time. No solar. A stopwatch that runs on the date wheel, hands held in place by magnets, and a battery trick buried on page two that takes it from two years to five.

Take the free quiz — six questions, two minutes, and it tells you straight out: buy at launch, wait for the upgraded version, or skip it entirely. If you land on buy, it names which of the nine versions fits your wrist, your budget, and your eyes.

If you need a timer, an alarm, or world time on your wrist, the GAC-2500 does not have them and no future firmware will add them. Those two will serve you better.

WHAT’S IN THIS VIDEO

The G-Shock GAC-2500 and GMC-2500 series arrive November 2026 at ¥20,900 in Japan, roughly $135 for the resin models. It’s the first fully analog G-Shock in years with no digital display at all, an octagonal bezel drawn from the 5000 and 5600 lines, and a case shape the internet immediately nicknamed the CasioNaut for obvious reasons.

This is not a hype video. This is what the manual says.

Covered in full:

– Every feature the module 5757 has and doesn’t have — a 30-minute stopwatch measuring in one-second increments, full auto-calendar, LED light, 200-meter water resistance. No countdown timer. No alarm. No world time. No Tough Solar. No Bluetooth.

– The Second Hand Sleep function — hold the lower-right button for three seconds, the second hand parks at 30, and battery life goes from approximately two years to approximately five. Casio buried it in the manual and almost no review has mentioned it.

– Casio’s new magnetic hand mounting structure, explained honestly. The hands aren’t fixed to a shaft, they’re held by magnetic force so they absorb impact instead of breaking. The trade-off Casio states plainly in the manual: shock or vibration can make the minute hand oscillate.

– The readability verdict on all nine colorways, ranked by what you can actually read at a glance on your wrist, not what photographs well on Instagram.

– Three things buried in the fine print — the factory test battery you pay to replace even under warranty, the stopwatch trap that wipes your measurement with no warning, and the AM/PM second-hand position that will flip your date at noon if you set it backwards.

– The weight story nobody mentions: 47 grams in resin, 68 grams metal-covered, 138 grams in full steel. Same footprint, completely different watch on your wrist.

– A straight buy / wait / skip verdict by buyer type, including the honest case for waiting on a solar version and what that patience actually costs you.

💬 TWO THINGS IN THE COMMENTS

1. Which of the nine are you taking? Model and color.
2. Settle the nickname. CasioNaut, CasiNaut, NautiShock, or Casio-Utilis — or beat them all. The winner gets used in every video in this series.

  1. I like the looks of it, but they took everything out that made it cool and usable.. solar and the alarm, Bluetooth would be nice too..I'll wait for the next version

  2. The only watch I’ll own once this one drops, grey and full metal, both… then I’ll guve away the others I own, not a collection… and done, exactly what I did with iPhone, bought 3 13mini and I have no stress to “keep the trend”

  3. Minute, hour and second hands look like cheap, thin sheet metal. It would be nice if they had a bit more depth and a more solid, refined look.

  4. I don't care about solar, bluetooth or an alarm. No buy ones an Omega, Rolex, AP, Patek with these features in mind. I want a watch that tells time and this one does just that. I'm getting the Patek homage. Metal with blue dial.

  5. Battery watches are a waste of money, in this day and age, who wants to replace batteries after a few years. Solar or automatic are the only way to go.
