“What a lot of absolute trollop.” Peter Martin on Henry Winter’s claim that English football was always the backbone of integrity: Sam Allardyce, Don Revie walking out for Middle East money, and the brown envelopes and bungs of the old days. Then the Man City question: Peter says only relegation would satisfy people, Hugh MacDonald says they can’t really be relegated without dragging the EFL in, and a hefty points deduction may be the only way.

Is and I listened to Henry Winter who I’ve got a lot of time for talking about the integrity of the sport and how it’s been tarnished you know and how you know over the decades you know English football’s always been the backbone of integrity and I’m thinking what a lot of absolute trollop there’s no sporting integrity down through the years if you talk about managers if you talk about conduct if you talk about the skulduggery that’s gone on give me peace I know there’s this there’s this hallowed thing of like Hovis advert you know, fans turning up to games with their bicycles and, you know, butchers and bakers owning teams and handing out, you know, players, you know, the Christmas turkey and we’re all singing carols on the way home. I love Henry. It must have been a short memory. One of the England managers. I think you know we’ve spent longer in a night out than Sam Allardyce spent in the job and don’t the great Don Revie and I think quite rightly he shot off to Saudi because he was getting more money and you know what I’ve got no complaints about that whatsoever particularly the way managers were paid in the old days.
Yeah, but the back end of managers and the conduct of clubs, you give me peace. I know. And the amount of listen there was stationers all over England running out of brown envelopes at that time as well cuz it was filled with full of bungs. Yes. So, you know, as the old saying is give me peace.
That said, if the precedent has been set, there’ll be a lot of nervous chairmen around England at the moment that know where the bodies are buried and what they’ve done. Listen it people who pe people now who are panicking and you know and again I’m casting no aspersions I’m just agreeing with you on this people who have been involved in any way linked in some kind of tentacle towards Manchester City will be looking and thinking well if this is one hacker who suddenly exposed it where are where are all the others but Man City’s is on such a grand scale Hugh you know that I can only see one outcome that will satisfy people, which is relegation. Well, relegation is a problem because they can’t really relegate them because they we’d have to then bring the EFL in which is a different league. You know, we’d have to say to them, right, can we can we would you allow Man City to come into your league after this? Have we been in this movie before?
It’s conv no. I’ll get to Rangers, but what I will say to you is this. The way they can relegate I’m sorry just to finish the point is just is to is to give them a hefty points deduction I think. T-shirts, canvas, and prints. Get 10% off your first order.
