The U.S. Navy’s Pre-Commissioning Unit John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) conducted Acceptance Trials from August 12 to 15, 2026, including precision anchoring testing and high-speed turns testing to evaluate the carrier’s systems at sea. Acceptance Trials are sailor-led tests conducted to demonstrate that the ship has been built in accordance with contract specifications and that the crew has received sufficient training to carry out sea-based operations. The aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy is scheduled to be commissioned in March 2027.

PCU John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) is the second aircraft carrier in the Ford Class, the first new class in more than 40 years.
I was on the PCU George Washington in 1992 when they were performing those tests. Our squadron was the airwing onboard. When we got back to Norfolk, it was then, the USS George Washington CVN-73. Those tests were wild!!!
