This is one thing I always do, clean my phone. I see lots of videos on it, what I do not see though, EVER, is anyone holding their phone the other way to dislodge the dirt, so it falls out and not back in, which it does and it clogs things more. Not only that, but using a pick or swab in the charging port isn't a good idea, even if being careful the slightest nudge or wrong movement you could bend the charging pin leading to excessive premature wear, or potentially even snap it completely.
Compressed air is actually much better for the charging port.
Microfibre cloth for lifting the dirt out of any recesses, making sure to hold it the correct way so not to dislodge dirt further into any recesses, definitely not with a toothbrush forcing everything that's stuck in the grate/gauze for a reason, back into the phone.
