Concerns over immigration, integration and the loss of English identity have returned to the political spotlight as Andy Burnham begins his premiership. Successive governments face criticism for failing to protect Britain’s borders or reassure people who feel increasingly disconnected from their changing communities.
Burnham has also faced a backlash after blaming Thatcher-era policies and Brexit for Britain’s weak economic growth in his first Commons address as prime minister. Keir Starmer is leaving Parliament to focus on international affairs, while Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has promised a major reset of Britain’s policy towards Israel.
Julia Hartley-Brewer speaks with spiked’s chief political writer, Brendan O’Neill.

Has anyone else noticed this globalist Government is trying to distance itself and the UK from older allies , Israel and the USA , and draw closer to the EU ?
The UK has been under a managed decline for many years . Reasons for this undoubtedly vary , but it is clear one world government globalists are involved . It is done in stages , so people do not notice . Well , FINALLY , they are noticing ! This is largely due to a lack of Defence preparation and the increasing mass immigration .
brexit is good. I'm in america. I'll buy uk houses anywhere.
When Burnham blamed Thatcher and Brexit for Britain's decline, he forgot to mention Roosevelt, who put pressure on Churchill to dismantle the Empire!
Oh, let's applaud Thatcher for destroying our industrial base Yes, what short memories. Nothing produced, nothing gained. I'll tell you who profited. The bosses that moved their businesses overseas for cheap labour. They couldn't pay us a decent wage so they had to move. Pure greed.
Milton Friedman even admitted she was a Fwit. 3 million unemployed, greater inequality etc etc..
And Bumrot is doing another fine job too. Can't wait for the rabbit out the hat trick..
Spot on. One culture has taken over in my part of Greater London rendering any semblance of the former British culture obsolete, thanks to people like Khan and the Uniparty 😡😡 Brendan O’Neill is a twisted comedic genius for finishing off with “I feel sorry for Starmer.” The look on JHB’s face was priceless 😂😂
Fight back against black and pak DEI. If a company advertises favouring blacks or paks in this country over the indigenous WHITE population, DON’T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.
SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THE WHITE BUSINESSES. LET’S DECIMATE THE FOREIGNERS.
Same in Ireland. My small town is all Eastern Europeans, Africans and Indians.
Remove the oil from the North Sea and put the immigrants in the Sea, problem solved!
Typical Burnham, blame everyone else apart from his dismal, anti British party.
It wont be long before England will be like Wales with Arabic road signs with English sub titles.
Brexit didnt work because no one tried to make it work…a huge lost opportunity!
Burnham would be a very average PM during boom years, as it is we are in very challenging times, and he doesn't have the requisite qualities to confront his backbenchers and make the necessary difficult decisions. Labour will compound the country's problems. He will fail, and he will blame it on a long dead former Prime Minister because that is the animus that drives them.
Seems to be the thing to blame the past. Burnham conveniently forgets that a lot of our problems were actually caused by blair and new labour… labour always create a rise in unemployment while in government, always spend and tax until there is nothing left. Burnham just seems to forget what damage any labour government does and has caused, he truly believes it is never a labour government that brings this country to its knees and constantly does so. Why should we all work hard and think its OK to have our money supporting everyone else. We would be far better off being allowed to keep more of our own money and just have less reliance on expecting benefits to then be paid back to us to allow us to have some quality of life. I cant think of a more inefficient system, and it would save us a fortune by getting rid of loads of civil servants and council office workers. We need to cut the unproductive state to save the real wealth creators of an economy which is the private sector.
Unelected Back-door Burnham, blaming the current shituation on a truly elected Prime Minister from 40 years ago who had more balls than he could dream about. How low can the UK go before it's put out of its misery.
Government trying to justify just taxing anything productive to pay themselves, the unproductive 🤷♂️
pure hatred of anyone who disagrees,
Vote Reform
Objectivly Brexit screwed the UK economy and exacerbated immigration brutally. Sad that this is not honestly admitted. I hate HATE the course of the UK but Brexit exacerbated the issues
The greatest lie ever told is your government cares about you 💯 if voting actually changed anything it would be illegal!! The public have a say all the way up to the door of parliament basically
Stop saying he's a nice guy, he's a narcissistic socialist prat who will be kiboshed by his intellectually challenged backbenchers as soon as he tries to do anything.
Bizarre that Burnham believes it a good idea to blame a single long-deceased Tory politician (36 years hence) for our countries current modern day woes. Absolute insanity.
