  2. Regarding achievements and/or accomplishments. I think we should in general try and find a reasonable middle ground. Perhaps not "boosting" trivial things to the degree of some of your examples from the "wine list". But it is probably also detrimental to set the standard so high as the expression "just an engineer, doesn't even have a PhD" infers. Either extreme is probably negative both socially and individually.

  3. I appreciate how long you took to establish how to hold the frame. I've been dancing for about 10 yrs now and that frame is the most important thing in my opinion. Even if you're unable to hear the beat of the music, as long as the tension between the dancers is there, it'll work out in the end

  4. As a ballroom student of 3 years, I thoroughly enjoyed the explanation and demo of frame/connection. Also, did anybody else notice the similarities between "People don't enjoy prolonged unbroken eye contact as a rule" and the Dresden Files?

  5. as someone who has been a lindy hopper for a long time, this was such as great watch. I was nodding along with everything Lloyd was saying. In reference to the "this isn't martial arts you don't have to block me, I have once used a swing move to get out of a hold when my friend and I were play wrestling, he was so surprised when I was able to get free. so the overlap between martial arts and dancing is perhaps more than one might think 🙂

  6. Girl, you were doing so well from the very beginning!!! It felt awkward to you, but all you need is a little practice – the hardest thing to learn is the connection to follow, and it came really naturally to you. A sense of rhythm helps too, and you've got that down! Now the biggest difficulty will be getting yourself out there to practice, and dancing with less-amazing leads.

  7. First and foremost you’ve provided an interesting parallel between 2 societies that although one being the direct descendant of the other, on the surface look more and more different, but are in fact the same, sort of, it’s the beginning of quite the superb study and then some, and the then some I mean here is that I come from a completely different society, and the idea of useful social skills in my neck of the woods becomes even more clear the more different societies differ.
I’m glad I’m not at all fond of short form videos, which means I don’t mind at all watching three quarters of an hour for something I’m not sure what it’ll offer me.
It’s fun to see you do the Lindy dances, I’m just as clueless about dancing as the next person, however Lindy does know how to inspire 😊.
I’ll let Al Pacino in 1995´s Heat explain a thing of 2 about your superb bottom, and I don’t care if you or anyone else feel “offended” in ANY way shape or form by someone noticing the beauty of the female body as we were in fact bloody designed to, no matter if polite society or whatever is left of it decided in it’s wisdom to tactfully hide it, or especially modern western society that is falling all over itself not knowing what to do with it, notably when it comes to comically oversensitive species ending panic, much like a teenager not knowing how to perform their first kiss.

  8. Jill, random questions in no particular order:

Is that the same dress you wore for your Taming of the Shrew video back in the day?

Are you leading up to more Austen Hot Takes?

    Where's the cheese?

  9. Many of the principles carry over- awareness of your body in space, balance, the proper sequence of movement, being able to feel the other person, etc. I've found that George Silver's True and False Times apply equally well to dancing, especially west coast swing and tango, as they do to sword fighting.

  10. That whole spiel about framing… single most insightful explanation on how to follow I've ever seen! My dad taught me to follow just from force of repetition, but I never understood it until now.
Also, the rickety bridge experiment is my favourite, I had just studied it in a beginner psychology course not long before I went on the first date with my now-husband and I like to joke that I tricked him into falling in love with me because I made him go on a Ferris wheel with me, even though he hates heights 🤣

  11. My husband and I met blues dancing. In my opinion it's the easiest to learn cause I get caught up in foot work and blues really is just 100% improve. My husband still can't do anything with specific foot work that has to happen otherwise it falls apart. Blues is honestly the most fun I've ever had dancing

  12. Hi hello! As a Lindy Hop teacher, you’re doing GREAT, Jill!!! The Lindy circle and swingout are some of our most difficult moves, so trying them within one day of dancing is IMPRESSIVE!

For anyone else who’s thinking about dancing, I recommend finding Lindy Hop, mainly because (at least in the US) Lindy Hop dancers are all NERDS!!! Most of us are engineers or work in tech for a living and you’re likely to find several DND players and fantasy readers in the room and time you dance.
