JPMorgan CIB: Why $663M of Credit Cost Wasn’t $663M of Charge-offs

JPMorgan CIB: Why $663M of Credit Cost Wasn’t $663M of Charge-offs

Reported Q3 2026, ended September 30; results released October 13. Commercial & Investment Bank (CIB) only — not firmwide or consumer cards.

Net charge-offs $211M + net reserve build $452M = provision $663M. Prior-year CIB: $567M + $242M = $809M. Our year-over-year arithmetic: total -$146M, charge-offs -$356M, reserve build +$210M. A lower total does not mean both components fell.

Keep net charge-offs, the change in allowance estimates and the ending allowance separate. A reserve build is not a separate cash jar, and none of these amounts establishes future returns. The animation is schematic, not borrower data or an app test.
