Light yagami was extremely intelligent. He had a high ego and that ruined everything for him including clouding his intelligence but anyone saying he was anything close to “dumb” is the dumb one
All Light did was overcompensate and adapt to his idiotic mistakes. He's not a genius, nowhere even close, he's a decent strategist at best, but his ego and narcissism are what got him killed in the end.
Everything that he put himself through could've easily been avoided if he just made the Shinigami eye deal.
Alright if Light literally never proclaimed himself Kira, none of what happened would have happened. He literally fumbled fom the beginning.

I think the most relatable character in Death Note was never supposed to be Light. It's Ryuk. We are the person who watches an obvious egomaniac who tries to become someone, while trailing so many hints who he is, wondering how long it will take for his downfall, because we are bored and we finally found something interesting. We can't be hurt either because noone can see us and we can just turn it off if we don't like it anymore. Ryuk can take away his death note at any time he pleases.
i think L's biggest mistake was thinking he was so smart he could be part of the investigation and play the kira role at the same time. Also L got him instantly by prodcasting the deathrow inmate trap only in certain area on japan. I was like at that point L had to got to win from this one.
Well, these "mistakes" that you say in this video were delibered by the writers of the show until the second season. It tell us that light is an egocentric, sociopath human who had a god complex and can make mistakes like anyone. He´s not perfect and that was his selfdestruction. If he doesn´t do these mistakes, Death Note was over in the first chapters. So, it´s nothing surprise and new.
