Following Muhammad ﷺ is a necessity required by sound reason.
The condition of Muhammad, his life, and his actions admit no reasonable explanation except that he was receiving revelation from God. Any other interpretation of the phenomenon of Muhammad—other than that he is a sent prophet—collapses under the slightest serious scrutiny and is exposed as false to anyone sincerely and objectively seeking the truth.
Explaining the existence of the universe and of human beings leads to the existence of the Creator, just as explaining prophethood leads to recognizing it as the necessary link between the Creator and His creation. To assume that there is no Creator is nothing but a deficiency in reasoning and a contradiction of its most basic principles. Likewise, to affirm the existence of a Creator while denying revelation is to accuse the Creator of acting in vain—far exalted is He above that.
Accordingly, reason affirms the existence of the Creator, necessarily affirms the existence of a message, and affirms that revelation is the means by which the Creator communicates with His servants. Even before the mission of Muhammad ﷺ, a human being, through reason, could perceive that this universe has a Creator, that this Creator has a message, and that this message requires a messenger to convey it to humanity.
When Muhammad ﷺ came, he came in accordance with what sound reason necessitates—testifying to his truthfulness and fulfilling what pure human nature and sound intellects had long anticipated.
