This week on IMO, Michelle and Craig sit down with the one and only Mary J. Blige for a deeply personal conversation about music, love, and learning to truly know yourself.
Mary shares the story of how she discovered her voice at just seven years old after growing up watching her mother sing, and reflects on her journey from singing in the living room to becoming the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. She opens up about the realities of the music industry and why educating yourself on your business is so important.
Mary also gets candid about how music became her therapy, the power of self-forgiveness, learning to love herself, and why she’s now focused on becoming the best version of herself—not being chosen by someone else. Plus, she shares what fans can expect from her first-ever Las Vegas residency, talks fashion and acting, reveals some of the artists she’s listening to right now, and looks back on some unforgettable moments, including performing at the White House.
Thank you to our presenting partner, Lilly.

I love my 1st Lady❤❤❤ Killing it 😂😂😂
Yooooo Michelle takes soo many stabs at her brother it’s hilarious 😂 🤣😂🤣❤️❤️!!! I absolutely love her personality, she is so spicy!!🌶️
Mrs. Michelle has a sharp tongue 😂😂 “Maybe nobody’s asking you what YOU think”… 😂
On a separate but positive note, I've seen Mary J. Blige in other interviews. She always seems a little guarded and nervous, but she seemed super comfortable here. I enjoyed it enough to watch it two times. I wish she would've been this comfortable with Scott Evans 'cause he is such good vibes, but this was a delight to see her release her shoulders.
😊😊
😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mary, hearing your story touches my heart as your music did long before this.
The music industry is a dog eat dog industry. That why I chose to teach music. You carry a lot of people, and end up with nothing. Add drug and alcohol abuse…whew!
I needed this!
I can't believe Mary loves horror movies! I love her even more! 😆😍😆😍! All these years I had no idea.
Mary you should do the reaction video series!
The back and forth between Michelle and Craig is killing me 😭😭😭
10:49 I listened to Rapture album by Anita, hundreds of times ❤
I loved this interview! When she talked about her adult home life and friend circle, I get it as I started to empty nest. You can walk around free, cook whenever, cackle with your girls, have an occasional date and send ‘em home.😂🎉❤ Enjoy the quiet and peace while serving humanity in your leisure. Thank you for living and loving your 50’s MJB!
