  1. Really awesome addition! Thanks for the video and nice run on the Re-Color layout! Plan to visit it next time to Japan with one of my sets.
I hunted down this full in 2025 and I found it on Poppondeta’s second-hand store and another second-hand store too in Akihabara. Also hunted the special D51 498 that they restored to run with this train and fitted the Kato Lights. It is a masterpiece! Have ran it a couple of times on my temporary layout and I just love it!

One thing I loved to see on 13:50 was the slipping of the Locomotive! Just like the real one in 1988 when it was departing from Ueno station! See the video here: https://youtu.be/DMGicS_pLoE

  2. My compliments to the owner of Re-Color Tokyo for his beautiful, custom-built layouts. I especially liked the inclusion of the three figures at 17:21 with what appears to be cameras in their hand as they're poised to film the train as it enters the curve. It added a great storyline and scenic realism to the moment.

  3. The Orient Express! I'm so glad you've added this gorgeous and iconic train set to your collection. The classic design of the coaches and their elegant livery is stunning. My favorite is the dining car. It's so beautiful. KATO's attention to detail in the manufacturing process is exceptional, as always. Wishing you a lifetime of joy running this train! Arigatougozaimasu for brightening my day with your video. I'll look forward to watching your next train adventure! 🚂🚃🚃

  6. I wanted to get it, but it was impossible to order it from Europe.

The carriages from the 1988 "Nostalgie Orient Express" have an incredible history.

    They still exist!

Following that famous expedition to Japan—known as "Nostalgie 88"—the train effectively vanished on its return journey. It never made it back to Europe, as the company operating it went bankrupt.

In 2015, a Frenchman managed to locate the carriages on a set of siding tracks, in a completely isolated area at the Polish-Belarusian border, using satellite imagery from Google Maps. They had remained there for 27 years.

The SNCF (the French national railway company) purchased the carriages from their German owner and had them completely refurbished.

The Accor Group acquired a 50% stake in the "Accor Orient Express" brand, with the SNCF holding the other half.

By 2027, these same carriages—which traveled to Japan in 1988—will once again run as part of the Orient Express, operating on routes between Paris and Istanbul, as well as between Paris and Prague.

This will be the second full Orient Express train in operation globally; the other is the Belmond Orient Express—known as the VSOE (Venice Simplon-Orient-Express)—which, since the mid-2010s, has primarily run services between Paris and Venice (via Switzerland and Germany) and between Paris and Budapest.

One of the original cars can also be found at the Lalique Museum in Japan (at Hakone)
