Remember that if you have both aortic and mitral valve disease, this can be caused by infective endocarditis or rheumatic heart disease. I'd also be thinking of collagen vascular disease such as Marfans and degenerative calcific disease can affect both valves too.
25 years ago I had open heart surgery. They repaired a hole, repaired the mitral valve and used a homograft to replace the aortic valve. My aortic valve was quite rare – it had 4 leaflets. It was hard surgery and long recuperation. The aortic valve has worked quite well but the mitral repair not so much. I have had SOB for most of those 25 years; not as bad as before surgery, but bad enough. About 5-8 years post surgery they found the homografts did not work as long as expected. I have been extremely fortunate that mine has held its function all these years. Now I have severe mitral and tricuspid valve regurgitation so they are going to put the clip on the tricuspid. I hope it works. My fatigue and SOB is severe and can’t do much – I am 71.
I have 3 clips…. Unfortunately my leak is still at the severe level but it has eased my symptoms a little… (I have lung issues as well…. Pulmonary hypertension).
I have a small leak in my mitral valve and a small leakin the tricuspid valve.
I'm wondering how you know clip or open heart. My husband will be doing the clip. But first we were talking to different Dr. for open heart so hope the doctor can get it figured out.
